Cheston Andrew Knotts

Cheston (Chet) Andrew Knotts, 48, of Bear, DE, passed away after complications from heart surgery on June 6, 2018.

Chet happily worked at Nemours A.I. duPont Hospital for Children, joining his wife, Yaritza Rodriguez Knotts, where they both contributed to the well-being of the patients and their families. He worked his way up from Patient Relations (PR) Representative, to PR Supervisor, before making PR Manager, all within a short few years.

After graduating from high school in Waterville, ME, Chet served in the U.S. Army as Signal Intelligence Analyst at Field Station Kunea in Hawaii. He attended Bryant College in Smithfield, RI, and then received his degree in baking and pastry arts from Johnson and Wales University in Providence, RI.

His culinary career found him delighting his patrons in hotels, restaurants and bakeries in a variety of locations, including: The Ritz Carlton, Aspen, CO; Aldo’s, Block Island, RI; The Hotel DuPont, Wilmington, DE; and other establishments in Boston, MA, Charlotte and Hickory, NC. After leaving his culinary career, Chet continued to bake specialty cakes and delicacies for family and friends.

Chet was an avid sports fan and growing up in Maine caused him to be one of the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots biggest fans. He passed on his passion to his daughter Chesany who sat right next to him on the couch, both of them with their jerseys on and hats situated, ready for the game.

Chet’s smile, kindness and sense of humor defined him. He was the one to slide a joke into a conversation that would have everyone quiet for a moment before roaring with laughter at the complete genius of it. He was the one to always welcome you with open arms and show his unwavering support by being there for you, a container of cookies in hand. His life priorities were family and friends and because of that, Chet was everything anyone could want in a husband, father, son, brother, and friend.

Chet was the son of Richard and Janice Fluharty Knotts of Hickory, NC. His maternal grandparents, Ed and Gladys Fluharty, and paternal grandparents, Cheston and Mary Knotts predeceased him. He was married to Yaritza Knotts for 12 years.

He leaves to cherish his memories: his wife Yaritza Knotts, daughter Chesany Knotts, stepdaughters Alyarith and Almarith Arevalo, his parents, brother Kurt Knotts and his wife Kelly and their children Braeden and Dana Knotts of Vernon, CT.

A celebration of life will be held on Friday, June 15th at Chandler Funeral Home, 2506 Concord Pike in Wilmington, with receiving at 4:00 PM and service at 5:00 PM. A private family burial will take place at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to his daughter Chesany’s college fund, using this link: go.fidelity.com/564xw.

Chet was an extraordinary person. He was a salt of the earth and as genuine as they come kind of guy. I can remember us trying to one up each other with jokes in the bakeshop. He came up with the nickname "Al" for me and never used my real name from that point on. I can remember thinking that it was endearing and funny at the same time. The world is a sadder place with out you but heaven is rejoicing with you there. He we will be forever missed. Until we meet again my friend...............................

Chet was an absolutely wonderful person. He was one of a kind. I will never forget the day my son left for basic training in the military. I was so upset and remember the morning after he left I sat silent and tearful in my office. I looked up to see Chet standing there with his smiling face to offer me encouragement and to tell me that he and Yaritza were there if I ever needed anything. I will never forget that. Yaritza and Chet were a beautiful couple and it was evident how much they adored each other. He was also an excellent father and loved his daughters. I will miss his smiling face.
