Byron Samonisky

Byron Samonisky, 99, passed away peacefully on January 3, 2021. Born on September 14, 1921 to Harris and Mina Samonisky, he was a graduate of P.S. DuPont High School and the University of Delaware. Byron was a proud U.S. Army veteran of World War 2, having fought in the Battle of the Bulge.

Byron was a career life insurance salesman for the Continental American Life Insurance Company. He was a member of the Scottish Rite Free Masonary and various Rotary clubs in Delaware. A lifelong fan of all sports, Byron participated in baseball and basketball while at the University of Delaware, coached various youth baseball teams, and loved watching his children and grandchildren in their sports competitions.

A loving husband, father, uncle, grandfather and great-grandfather, Byron cherished time spent with family. He was a gentle, kind and caring man, who had a quick smile and a wonderful sense of humor. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

In addition to his parents, Byron was predeceased by his wife of 67 years, Claire E. Samonisky. He is survived by his children Loisann Pisel (Walter) of Doylestown, PA, Marc Samonisky (Joan) of Newark, DE, and Allan Samonisky (Maria) of Severn, MD, 6 grandchildren, and 6 great-grandchildren.

The family extends thanks to the staff at the Kutz Senior Living Campus for Byron’s care over the past six years.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions, in Byron’s memory, to the Kutz Senior Living Campus, 704 River Road, Wilmington DE 19809.

Marc, Allan, and Loisann My sincere condolences on the passing of your dad. I always enjoyed seeing your mom and dad at our soccer games and many other local sporting events. They were a beautiful couple and roll models for all us Bulldogs and Blue Hens. What I remember most about your dad was his wonderful sense of humor, of course, and also the interest he would show in you and what you were doing. As a kid, that really made an impression on me and something I have tried to emulate as an adult. All the best to the Samonisky family Roger Morley

I am so sorry to hear of your father's passing. He was our neighbor on Jaybee road for many years! He was always so kind to my four girls and they loved to go down and see him while he sat in his chair in the garage. They would ride their scooters and tricycles around his drive-way and he always had a joke or a kind word for them. He lived a wonderful life!
