Bruce Eliot Linton

Bruce Eliot Linton, 73, of Wilmington, Delaware, passed away at home of natural causes, Thursday September 7, 2023. Born in Montclair, NJ, Bruce was the second of four sons of W. Henry and Beatrice (Brewster) Linton and the loving husband of Rita Marie Mascelli Olivere, with whom he shared five years of marriage until her passing (August 2020). A member of Brandywine High School (Class of ‘68), Bruce attended the University of Delaware after graduation and employment included American Olean in their tile factory, Merck Pharmaceuticals in various roles, and as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) for a number of years.

Early on, Bruce had a keen mind for all things mechanical, starting with the family lawn mower, moving up to motorcycles (proud owner of a Kawasaki), then flying, ultimately earning his private pilot’s license through an aviation school in the Midwest. Bruce was very fond of Latin music and kept current with Political issues, Far Side comics (Gary Larson), Catholic theologians, past and present, activities at the Clayton Senior Center, and with social media, often posting on Facebook in praise of his wife. His interest in the outdoors grew stronger after positive experiences at Outward Bound and National Outdoor Leadership School (NOLS).

During his school years, Bruce attended Westminster Presbyterian Church in Wilmington along with his parents and brothers. During his working years, Bruce attended Antioch Baptist Church of Glenside and up until his passing, he was a faithful member of Saint Elizabeth’s of Wilmington, singing in the choir, joining in Men’s Bible study, and where his weekly (and early) Sunday morning texts were like a ‘Sunday morning alarm clock’ for staff.

Bruce was preceded in death by his father and mother, his beloved Rita Marie, and a granddaughter, Caitlin Rouwhorst. Bruce is survived by three children, Gina Olivere, Janelle Olivere, Joseph (Ryan) Olivere, grandchildren James Olivere, Justin Olivere, Cecella Rouwhorst, Andrew Olivere and Maren Olivere, three brothers, Douglas (Deborah) Linton, Cornelius, NC, Jeffrey (Alison) Linton, West Chester, PA, Mark Linton (Susan Ellis), Davis, CA, loving nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, wonderful cousins, and caring aunts, Elaine Linton, Wilmington, DE and Lois Duling, Lancaster, PA.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held Friday, September 15, 2023, at 11:00 AM, at St. Elizabeth RC Church, 809 South Broom Street, Wilmington, DE, 19805. A Visitation will be held prior from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to St. Elizabeth’s RC Church, Wilmington, DE. soli deo gloria.

So sorry to hear about Bruce. He sang bass with me in St. E’s choir for several years. I always enjoyed talking with him before and after (and sometimes during) rehearsal. My thoughts are with his family.

I knew Bruce at Merck where he supported FDA filings for approval of new drugs. Those who managed Bruce went to great effort to make sure Bruce was appropriately compensated for his work. He, in turn, gave away any additional funds he received to those he considered more in need than he. That was who Bruce was! To those of his family and friends that I met at his wedding, please accept my most heartfelt condolences.
