Bruce Allen Lambly, Sr.

Bruce Allen Lambly, Sr, 85, of Milton, DE, left this life due to leukemia, kidney, and heart failure on Tuesday, March 14, 2023.

Bruce was born August 10, 1937 in Perth Amboy, NJ, to John Edward (Jack) Lambly of South Orange, NJ and Elizabeth Elder Lambly of Short Hills, NJ. He grew up in Menlo Park, NJ, and attended Sand Hills School, Clara Barton, and graduated from Metuchen High School in 1956. He became a Helicopter Mechanic for the United States Marines at New River Air Facility, Camp LeJeune, Jacksonville, NC. After an Honorable Discharge in 1963, he was employed by General Electric as a jet engine mechanic in Elizabeth, NJ for 3 years. He spent more than 30 years as a Master Mechanic for United Parcel Service before retiring at age 55 in 1992.

He was reunited with his high school sweetheart, Dale, in 1989. They relocated to Sioux City, Iowa for a few years. His last move was to Milton, DE. He volunteered at The New Life Thrift Shop, Rehoboth Beach, The United States Air Force Air Mobility Command Museum, Dover, Henlopen State Park, and Meals on Wheels. He was a member of Teamster Local 177 in Hillside, NJ, The Marine Corps League, and The USMC Heritage Foundation. Bruce’s passions were cars, beach hikes, and traveling to visit family. He could fix anything.

He is survived by sisters: Nancy Penelope Rosenberger (Dr. Michael) of Factoryville, PA and Jacqueline Meredith Johnson (James) of Beaufort, NC; granddaughters: Captain Holly Marie Schlotfeldt (SSgt Roemen Lucas) of Minot, ND, Michelle O’Neil of Matawan, NJ, Nicole Lambly of Parlin, NJ, Dixie Jane Strange and Annie Rae Strange of Golden, CO, Anna Henderson of Hartwood, VA; daughters:  Carrie Jane Bernard Smith (Gordon) of Golden, CO, Jeannie Frock of Felton, DE, Jennifer Bernard-Greene (Dr. Nigel) of Mystic, CT; son: Jack of Sarasota, FL; great-grandsons:  Emmet O’Neil, Graham O’Neil, Wren Alaelus, and Robin Gale Schlotfeldt.

Bruce was preceded in death by his parents of Menlo Park, NJ, brother Barry Phillips Lambly of Brown’s Summit, NC, son Bruce Allen Lambly, Jr. of Cliffwood Beach, NJ, and daughter Jill Lambly of Linden, NJ.

Funeral Services

We will not hold a service or memorial, per his wishes. A brick is placed at the Marine Corps Heritage Park, Dumfries, Virginia. Another will be placed to honor his life in a location in New Jersey to be determined at a later time. He is an Anatomical Gift Donor to the University of Delaware, Department of Physical Therapy, Health Sciences via Chandler Funeral Homes and Crematory, Wilmington and Hockessin, DE.
