Barbara Nichols

Barbara Nichols, age 91, passed away peacefully on September 20, 2026. She was born and raised in lower Delaware and spent 50 years in Mendenhall, PA.

Barbara is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 63 years, Daniel J Nichols Jr and granddaughter Julia Rose.  She is survived by sons Daniel John (Kathy), Andrew (Denise), and Joseph (Pam).  She is also survived by her grandchildren, Heather (Joseph), Kim, Daniel (Caitlin), David, Michael, Rebecca (Will), Stephen, Connor, Riley and Grace along with great grandchildren Henry, Bennett, Everett, Margaret, Addison, and Jonathan.

Barbara’s first passion was her family to whom she was fiercely loyal.  There was no limit to what she would do for her family and always generously and selflessly gave of her time and talents. Her pets were dear to her heart, bringing her love, companionship and joy through the years.

She was a registered nurse and worked the majority of her career at Christiana Care and AI Dupont Hospital for Children.  As a pediatric nurse, she made a life changing difference not only in many children’s lives but in their parents’ and families’ lives as well. She mentored many other nurses, instilling a heart of caring for patients with the highest standards of excellence they deserved.

A farm girl at heart, she embodied the simple life, love of animals and an unmatched work ethic.  She had an independent and tenacious spirit and never met a project she wouldn’t tackle. From fixing the tractor to delicate handwork, she certainly was a jack of all trades.

She was a resident of Maris Grove in Glen Mills for the past five years and was blessed with friendships with an incredible group of ladies that enriched her life deeply.
