Arthur Nile “Ted” Baird

Arthur Nile “Ted” Baird, 81, of Bradenton Beach, FL, passed away on October 21, 2017, in Wilmington, DE, in the care of his loving family. He was born on February 5, 1936 in Idaho Falls, Idaho to Roland and Edna Hayes-Baird.

Ted’s childhood was spent in various towns in Idaho and Utah. He graduated from Butte High School in Arco, ID, in 1954. He then enlisted in the Navy Submarine group and served a total of 20 years during the Cold War on five different submarines including: Wahoo (1954-56), Corporal (1958-59), Snook (1964-66), Lafayette (1969-72), and William H Bates (1973-74). He retired from the Navy in 1974 having achieved the rank of Master Chief. He briefly attended college at Idaho State College in Pocatello, ID, on a Phillips Petroleum scholarship, pursuing a degree in electronic engineering. Ted worked for Westinghouse as a Nuclear Engineer where he spent seven years in South Korea until 1987 as site manager of the Kori Nuclear Power facility. He moved to Millville, NJ, in 1986 and retired from Westinghouse in 1996.

After retirement, Ted loved ballroom and country-line dancing with his wife Luanne as well as playing his organ. He was a talented artist and published author. He was a member of the American Legion and Moose Lodge. Ted will be fondly remembered by family and friends worldswide and especially those at the Sandpiper Resort and in the Bradenton area.

Ted was preceded in death by his father and mother, Roland and Edna, his older brother, Roland “Ronny” Hayes, his eldest son, Arthur Nile Jr, and his grandchild Andrew John “AJ” Baird.

Ted is survived by his wife of 16 years, Luanne of Bradenton, Florida; his children, Roye (Cyndie) Baird of DeFuniak Springs, FL; Brian (Cheri) Baird of Tucson, AZ; KC (Nanette) Baird of Clearfield, UT; John (Christine) Baird of Idaho Falls, ID; Kathy (Oscar) Crober of Lockhart, TX; Reginald Baird (Bill Murphy) of San Francisco, CA; Regan (Cindy Kos) Baird of Marlton, NJ; Hart (David) Rossmeisl of Fort Washington, PA; Hayes (Mindy Courier) Baird of Clearwater, FL; Myles (Melissa Cavazos) Baird of Dallas, TX; Patti (Albert Marcacci) Schmid of Vineland, NJ; Michelle Ernst of Vineland, NJ; Mark (Amy) Ernst of Wheat Ridge, CO; Lisa (Joe) Bybel of Millville, NJ; Marlene (Curtis) Cassotis of Kernersville, NC; Lynn (Matt) Hanna of Wilmington, DE; and Eric Ernst of Vineland, NJ; his siblings Bruce (Harlene) Baird of Mud Lake, ID; Charlotte Baird of La Verkin, UT; Mike (Patsy) Baird of Idaho Falls, ID; Rick (Karen) Baird of Tremonton, UT; 19 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. BOOYAH!
