Andrew Dal Nogare

It is with great sadness the family of Andrew Dal Nogare announce his passing at the age of 59. Andrew will forever be remembered for his intelligent wit, skill with creating wonderful meals for family and friends, and for his love of learning.

Andrew’s curiosity led him to earn an FCC radio operator permit for the only high school radio station in Delaware in the 1970s, WMPH at Mt Pleasant HS, where he also ran spring track and cross-country. An avid hiker and camper, Andrew achieved Eagle Scout rank and Order of the Arrow membership with BSA Troop 99, camping monthly year-round and developing his talent for cooking in a Dutch oven. Andrew treasured the weeks spent hiking the Appalachian Trail with his identical twin brother, Steve.

Andrew graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Political Science from University of Delaware, having received a full 4-year scholarship. He was a member of service fraternity Alpha Phi Omega. Living in the International and Russian houses with students from around the world expanded Andrew’s experience with global cuisines and philosophies.

After earning his master’s degree in Government Administration from the Fels School of Government at University of Pennsylvania, Andrew worked for the Delaware House of Representatives in Dover, DE as a Majority Legislative Assistant. His career also included time as a Policy Analyst with Caesar Rodney Institute, and as Executive Director and lobbyist for the Delaware chapter of the American Subcontractors Association. He was both a volunteer and worked with the Department of Elections. Andrew never missed an opportunity to vote.

Andrew will be deeply missed by his wife Jill, who will cherish her memories of their life and travels together. She is grateful for Andrew’s understanding with moving camping from a year-round to three-season activity. His habit of writing travelogues full of random observations, including one colorful account of a 3-week journey sailing the coast of New England with his father-in-law, will help to keep Andrew’s voice and sense of humor alive for her.

Andrew was predeceased by his parents, Dorothy F. and Stephen Dal Nogare. In addition to Jill, Andrew is survived by his siblings and their families, Maren D. Ketchum (Robert), Oxford, PA, Elsbeth D. Mason, Philadelphia, PA, Anthony R. Dal Nogare, M.D. (Catherine L Hall, M.D.), Kalispell, MT, Marcus Dal Nogare, Wilmington, DE, Stephen Dal Nogare (Kimberly Ward), Wilmington, DE, cousin Lisa A. Schallert, Philadelphia, PA, and Cleo and Miel.

If you’d like to make a memorial contribution in Andrew’s memory, please consider a donation to the Appalachian Trail Conservancy, or make time to take a walk in the woods.

Dear jill, You may not know me but I know Andy very well, he was my roommate at the International House at the University of Delaware. You know, Andrew was my first American friend, we were so close and we spent so much time together and had so much discussions together over politics, religion, world affaires and many more topics .. I was almost the only one who could distinguish between him and steve, all the others were always mixing up between the two of them.. It is really too bad that we were not in touch all these years .. Last time I saw him was on the 1st or 2nd of December 2000 at the dear park in Newark, it was when I came on a business trip to the USA, and we had a reunion gathering at the Dear Park along with many other friends.. it was a memorable night. It is so sad that one of my best friends has passed away .. Andrew will always be in my mind and my soul until the last day of my life. May god rest his soul in peace..

My husband was Andrew's Scoutmaster in Troop 99. He had many good things to say about Andrew and his brother. I was touched to see The troop referenced in his obit and to see that Andrew continued to love camping and hiking and to use the skills he learned in Scouting. My husband would be pleased if he were alive to read it.

I am heartsick at the news of Andrew's death. I have become a dear friend of his sister, Elsbeth ("Libbe") and cherished Andrew's friendship as well. My deepest sympathy to Jill, who has lost a husband too soon, and to Andrew's entire family. The Dal Nogares are the family I wish were mine. Sorrowfully, Susan

I was shocked and saddened to hear of Andrew's passing. It was just a few weeks ago that I had a long conversation with him at the Delaware Rifle and Pistol Club. He was very supportive of our Club and was always willing to help; particularly, with helping us to keep track of what was going on in the Delaware Legislature. He will be missed. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his wife and family. Please let me know when the memorial gathering will be held. Sincerely, James W. (Jim) Bowman, President Delaware Rifle and Pistol Club

Stephen, I’m shocked and saddened to learn about Andrew’s passing. I write this with tears my eyes. It has been quite awhile since we have seen and spoken to each other (too long,) but I always thought there would be time for reunion, reacquaintance and reminiscing. Alas, I have been proven (partial) wrong again. Hopefully, we may reconnect for I have many fond memories our youthful, spy and formative years together and would love to recount some with you, and make some time to make new memories. As I being reminded again, we should take time to pause and reflect, but never stagnate or tarry to long. Please let me know of Andrew memorial date and I will try to make it. PS. Hopefully Andrew is hanging with and in deep, profound discussion with Lowell.

Jill, I am so sorry to learn of Andrew's passing when I was checking the posting today of Ken's death in late April. I remember Andrew from the days when he worked for PNC National Bank for Patrick Doran. I enjoyed getting to know him and appreciated his intelligence and wit. I will keep you in my prayers during for what I know must be a difficult time.

I am sadden to hear of one of our Troop 99 alumni passing. I have worked with the names of the troop for many years now and was familiar with Andrew and his brother, Stephen. I hope his spirit can see that the troop continues to this day to camp year round and definitely do Dutch Oven Cooking. Thanks for being a part of our Scouting Family and hope his Spirit is at rest 'until we meet again'.
