Alan Thomas Jewett

Alan Thomas Jewett passed away on April 13, 2026, at Country House in Wilmington, Delaware. Born in 1949 in Passaic, NJ, to E. Melvin Jewett and Janet Hayton Jewett, Alan lived most of his life in Wilmington.

He was predeceased by his parents and his wife of 48 years, Marilyn Kay Lynam. Alan was a devoted supporter of Kay’s interests, and the two could frequently be found together at University of Delaware football games during the fall.

Alan graduated from Brandywine High School in 1967, where he was a National Merit Scholar, a football player, and a performer in school musicals. He went on to earn a B.A. from Johns Hopkins University (1971) and an M.B.A. from the University of Chicago School of Business (1974).

He spent his primary career in finance with CoreStates Financial Corporation and successor banks in Philadelphia and Charlotte. Later in life, he graduated from the University of Delaware Master Gardener program (2011) and subsequently enjoyed a rewarding second career as an educator at the Mt. Cuba Center. He spent more than a decade at Mt. Cuba, deeply appreciating the beauty of the grounds and the company of his colleagues, whom he considered to be good friends.

A long-time member of Concord Presbyterian Church since 1954, Alan served as an Elder and a member of the Finance Committee. He was also a member of the Mayflower Society in the State of Delaware. Additionally, Alan was a strong supporter of Friendship House, an organization that helps people experiencing homelessness. An accomplished athlete, Alan ran several marathons, including the 1979 Boston Marathon, which he finished in 2 hours and 48 minutes.

Alan is survived by his children, Jennifer Jewett Misra (Abhishek) and Christopher Jewett (Joanna Smutzler); his beloved grandsons, Nico, Miles, Jai, Ronan and Armaan; and his siblings, Nancy Jewett, Jackie Whiting (Robert), and Bruce Jewett.

This talented, lovely man will be missed at Concord Church. When in the choir loft, we could spot his tall presence near the rear of the church near the windows. We will miss him greatly.

    Russell Lewis writes,
Mr. Jewett will always be remembered for his warm, smiling presence along the sidelines of Tower Hill soccer and baseball games - a constant source of encouragement and good cheer. His enthusiasm carried over to the Fighting Blue Hens football stadium. Attending numerous UD football games with the Jewett family represents some of the fondest memories of my childhood. He will be deeply missed, and our thoughts are with his family.
