George G. Johnson

George G. Johnson, aged 95 years, of Wilmington and formerly of Millsboro passed away on Friday December 6, 2019 surrounded by his loving family. He was predeceased by his wife of 45 years, Louise Zickgraf Johnson.

George was an outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing on the Delmarva Penninsula. He joined the US Navy in 1941 and was in boot camp when the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor. He spent the next six years in the Pacific theater aboard the USS Mississippi. He married Louise when he came home and left the Navy.

He worked for the railroad for several years until a work accident forced him to retire. After that George was self employed as a small business owner until his retirement at age 65.

He is survived by his nephews, John J. Ptak Jr. (and family) with whom he lived for the past six months and George Zickgraf, as well as his niece, Theresa Wintermantel and her family, and a host of great nieces and nephews.
