Frederick “Freddie” Kurz

Frederick “Freddie” J. Kurz, age 37, of Wilmington, DE, and formerly of Aston, PA, passed away suddenly on June 21, 2022.

He graduated from Newark High School and had completed several years of study in elementary education at Temple University and Delaware Technical Community College.

He was a First-Class Sub-station electrician at Delmarva Power at the time of his passing. He had many friends who loved him and shared his love of skateboarding, snowboarding, and power lifting. He held the 2021 PA record for deadlifting. A day never passed without him pushing the limits at his gym. He was a friend to many within and outside the recovery community. He channeled some of his energies into playing the guitar, writing songs. Riding his motorcycle gave him a sense of freedom. Although he was not religious, he believed in a higher power guiding him. Freddie loved to read and had a subtle sense of humor and quick wit. He loved many dogs owned by others.

He is survived by his parents: Frederick and Jane Kurz; his sister: Nicole Kurz-McDowell (John ), his brother: Francis Kurz, (Corey), two nieces: Clare and Madeline, and two nephews: Ian and Colin. He is loved and will be missed dearly.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 29, 2022 from 1-4:00 pm at Chandler Funeral Home, 2506 Concord Pike, Wilmington, DE 19803. A memorial service will follow at 4:00 pm at Chandler Funeral Home. Burial will be private.

    Deb and Glenn writes,
Fred and Jane as well as your entire family… this is a loss no one should suffer. I know how hard Freddie, along with you, worked so hard to be ok. People don’t always understand how difficult that can be, especially for those with a gentle soul. I wish I could make your pain lessen. I wish I could say it goes away. It will live with you. You will just find a way to carry it in your own personal way. What you do have that will eventually will bring you strength is knowing you raised a good person, beloved by many, and that you and he did your best. It would take a naïveté that I no longer have to think any words can help your pain. Just know that he and you are very much loved.

I met Freddie at the central YMCA about 10 years ago. I was just starting working out and had no clue what I was doing. Freddie would stop his workouts to show me how to do something. We became gym pals and we started workout out together. He was always so nice and just a humble man. I will miss Freddie. Sending love to all his family. 💙

Friend lit a candle and writes,
Freddie was a beacon of light for so many people, he loved and was loved by everyone that knew him. May he live on in our thoughts and memories, in every smile and every hug of every person he touched. The dogs as well. That line was so Freddie and he must be smiling that sly smile somewhere as he read it. I will carry him in my heart everyday and every time I think something is too hard to do, and when the strength isn't there one for one more rep. One more push on the skateboard. One more hour to go at work. He is loved.
