Emilie Joy Martin

Emilie Joy Martin (nee Gravel) passed peacefully on Sunday, June 21, 2026 to be received in the hands of God.

Emilie was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother married to Ken for 57 years. She was born in Detroit, Michigan in 1944. Emilie attended the University of Detroit and Michigan State University. She was a teacher of blind children in Michigan and Virginia, and taught elementary special needs students in the Delaware Public Schools for over 20 years. She enjoyed knitting and took delight in the company and accomplishments of her grandchildren. She was a volunteer with the St. Vincent de Paul Society for many years. Emilie will be lovingly and happily remembered.

She is survived by her husband Kenneth, children Jennifer McNay (Ewan McNay) and Adam Martin (Ruth Martin), and grandchildren, Aidan McNay and Keiran McNay.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, July 2, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, 7200 Lancaster Pike, Hockessin, DE 19707. A visitation will be held prior to mass from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow the mass at St Patrick’s Cemetery, Ashland, DE.

In lieu of flowers, her family prefers donations to the St. Vincent de Paul Society at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in Hockessin, DE.
