Please accept my sincere sympathy on the loss of the person I consider your family matriarch. Jean will be greatly missed. She was a compassionate, thoughtful, outgoing and caring person with an uncommon amount of common sense. I'm so glad I went to see her in January. As frail as she had become, she was still her old self, with her quick wit and her attention to those around her. I remember the vacation trips we took together (with George and Joel), one to the New Orleans area and a much longer one that began in Seattle, continued through Western Canada by train to Jasper, then down to Banff and Calgary by bus. The entire trip was planned by the four of us, mostly by George (he loved the logistics!) and we never took a cab, rented a car, etc., but used public transportation the entire time. I think the highlight for Jean was high tea at the Hotel Victoria on Vancouver Island, but she loved every minute of the adventure -- she was a great observer and a wonderful travelling companion! My first memory of her was her visits to my mother, who battled muscular dystrophy. We had just come to Delaware and I started attending St. Paul's, and soon Jean appeared for what was to be the first of many visits. My mom really looked forward to those, especially because we didn't know a soul in Delaware except our realtor. In time, our paths crossed frequently for other reasons, because we both lived in Fairfield, went to St. Paul's, and enjoyed square dancing at Two by Fours. Jean lived a long and full life, while contributing greatly to any situation in which she became involved. She could be demanding, as I'm sure you know, but she wanted everyone to live life to the fullest, as she did. I hope you enjoy many happy memories of your years together. Nancy
