Winona Skinner Church

Winona Skinner Church, age 98, of The Country House, died on September 15, 2017. Widow of Gilbert P. Church, she is survived by her daughter Sharon Church McNabb, Sharon’s husband Phillip L. Johnson, granddaughter Eliza Tefft McNabb; her son Gilbert Patterson Church, Jr., his wife Barbara Sherman Church and grandson Ned Sherman Church. Winona’s husband died in 1993.

Known as Nonie, she was gracious to all who encountered her. Nonie loved dogs and favored her diminutive poodles most of all. She was resilient in the face of adversity, fiercely lovely, charming and tough. Her skills in the kitchen were legendary. She also nurtured her husband, children and grandchildren with profound and effective advice. In addition to her family, she was devoted to her friends and neighbors, and especially the community at Westminster Presbyterian Church.
