We lost a great man on March 27, 2026. William Lock, age 75, died at Christiana Hospital after dealing with cancer for 10 years. He called his life quiet but fulfilling. Those who really knew Will called him kind, thoughtful, smart, wise, generous, a mentor, and a true gentleman of the old school.
His years at DuPont/Dade produced lifelong friends and memories. Outside his professional career as an Information Technology Executive, he and his wife of 44 years enjoyed nature, travel and the arts – music and theater in particular. Trips to national parks, Asia, Europe and the Southwest were highlights of all the places they planned together.
He called himself a competent bass player, performing with close friends in venues from Delaware to New York to Alabama and Arizona. But musicians knew he was much more than competent.
Still, he was happiest simply enjoying the companionship of Sandra, assorted cat companions and long walks with DeeJay -the best dog in the whole wide world- in the quiet surroundings of the homes they were lucky enough to share in Delaware, Virginia, North Carolina and Hawaii. Sailing and anchoring overnight aboard their sloop “State of Grace” in the quiet coves of the Chesapeake Bay brought a peace that few people ever reach.
He is survived by his wife Sandra, and his beloved brother David, along with David’s wife Ellen, and their son, William H. Lock, Will and Sandy’s nephew and Godson. Services will be private.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to your local animal rescue or Food Bank of Delaware. They need all the help they can get.
