William Edward Russell

William Edward Russell (Bill), 77, of Newark, DE, formerly of Philadelphia, PA, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on April 27, 2020.  He was preceded by his parents, Helen Margaret Patterson and Alpheus Hiram Russell, and his two brothers: Joseph and Robert Russell. He is survived by his son William, and faithful cat Callie.

Bill owned a general contractor construction company prior to his retirement in 2015. He enjoyed watching classic movies and cherished spending time with friends and family. He was well known for his sense of humor and his passion for cooking. Bill was a great father and friend. He was unapologetically himself and full of life and stories. He lived life on his own terms, and was one of a kind.

Bill will be missed immensely.

Billy, I am so sorry for your loss. Your dad was one of a kind. He was a giving person..he even gave me a job as a secretary when I first got out of school and knew nothing. He was a hard worker. Worked hard and played hard. He Always had fun..those awesome parties he threw for you, the boat, showing up in limousines to drop presents off to everyone he knew who had kids. Those are just a few of the great memories I have of your dad. He always had you right by his side. Babysitter was not in his vocabulary. He loved you so much and would never go anywhere without you! You were his pride and joy! Hope you find comfort in the memories of your dad❤️ Love, Carolyne Abbate

Bill was more than a neighbor to us, he was family. He was like a grandfather to the girls, always spoiling them with presents, treats and even a companion during an ER visit. So many great memories during the 9 years living next to each other: hosting big parties for Billy, girls learning to swim at his pool, dropping big containers of food he just cooked, caring for Gio, his love for BJs and buying in bulk....too many to share. He will forever live in our hearts. There will never be another Bill!
