Thomas F. Jennings, age 72 passed away unexpectedly of natural causes surrounded by family at Christiana Care-Accent Care in Wilmington, Delaware on Friday November 7, 2025.
Tom grew up loving baseball in Fairfax, DE. He was born in Chester, Pa and moved to Fairfax at the age of 2. He played baseball from sun up to sun down every chance he got as a child. He graduated from Brandywine High School in 1971 and the University of Delaware in 1976. He began his over 40-year career with Nemours Hospital for Children as a security guard in the mansion. He moved into the hospital facilities department for the remainder of his time there. Many friendships were formed at Al, from the softball team in the early years, to annual picnics and the “Voices of Nemours”
He loved the history of Nemours and could relate many different stories of the past residents and the evolving excellence of the hospital.
He loved all music but especially the Beatles and Frank Sinatra. He was a sports fan following the Phillies and the Eagles throughout his life. Golf was another passion, playing every Sunday with a devoted group of like-minded players.
Tom was a funny, caring and charismatic man with a sharp wit. He was known for his comedic timing and bringing laughter to a room. He was the kind of man you wish was your lifeline on “Who Wants to be a Millionaire”, and he never lost a game of Trivial Pursuit!
Tom and Cindy met at the Stone Balloon in Newark the summer after he graduated with a BS in History. They were married in 1979. In 1983, Maura was born. Sean joined the family in 1986. Both of his children graduated from his Alma Mater.
Tom is predeceased by his parents, Ann and Jimmy Jennings. He is survived by his beloved wife of 46 years, Cindy, his children Maura and Sean, and his grandsons Jamie and Henry. He is also survived by his two brothers Pat (Carla) and Mike (Beverly). He truly loved all 9 of his nieces and nephews.
