Sylvia Ann (Kent) Bowdoin, 76, of Avondale, PA, passed away September 21, 2020. She was born in August of 1944, to the late Regina Kent in New Rochelle, NY. Sylvia graduated from New Rochelle High School in 1963. She is survived by her husband, George Bowdoin, married April 21, 1968, her brother Steve Cockerill (Patty), her children Donald Bowdoin (Kristen), George Bowdoin (Azucena), Elizabeth (Bowdoin) Applegate (Jeff) and grandchildren Tyler, Trevor, Jack, Savannah, Bella, and Britney. She was predeceased by her brothers Ron Belicki and Paul Tennant.
Facing many challenges while growing up with her adopted family she became determined to find her biological family. She was fortunate to find her mother and brothers and moved to Delaware to be closer to them. She never once took her family for granted and created a beautiful, loving relationship with every person she met. She felt incredibly blessed to have “real” family in her life and made sure each person knew. She always went above and beyond to make each of them feel special and loved. She spent countless hours over the past decade writing what she referred to as her “Book” which chronicled various aspects of her life. Her hope was that her family would read the book and continue documenting her family’s legacy.
Sylvia enjoyed life, was fun and full of energy and had a great sense of humor. She appreciated a neat and clean house and could often be heard whistling as she worked to take care of it. Sylvia was incredibly proud of her family, especially her children and grandchildren and was consistently thoughtful about them and never missed an opportunity to celebrate them on their birthdays, anniversaries, holidays and other special occasions. These small tokens of appreciation will be greatly missed. She commented that she would feel honored if others would take on these gestures of celebrating loved ones after she is gone. Sylvia was blessed to spend lots of time with her nearby grandchildren, often taking care of them and looking over them. She enjoyed the beach, cruises and traveling to Florida to visit her son George and his family. At family gatherings, she would make her famous deviled eggs and they would disappear quickly. She had an infectious laugh and she laughed often.
Sylvia’s wishes were to be cremated without a viewing and a private “celebration of life” where her family could enjoy each other’s company and share stories. She requested her remains to be scattered in Rehoboth Beach where she loved to spend time with her family.
