Shirley M. Young

It is with great sadness to announce the passing of Shirley Marie Young on October 24, 2025, at the age of 90.  She passed away peacefully in her sleep after a brief illness.

Shirley was the beloved wife of her late husband Leon (“Lee”) Young and is survived by her brother Don Bourne, son Scott Young and spouse, Karen, daughter Terri Nataline and spouse, Anthony, grandchildren, Aaron and Paige Nataline, Baily and spouse, Nick, Alex and Maria, along with great grandchildren Spencer and Summer (Bailey), and of course her beloved dog, Milo.

Shirley was born in Port Hope, Ontario. Canada in 1935.  After marrying Lee, they moved to the Unites States in 1979, living first in Coral Springs, Florida, followed by Hockessin and then Wilmington, Delaware.  Shirley lived a rich, vibrant life making countless friends along the way, including through her work at Delaware Trust, A.I. Nemours Children’s Hospital, and the Helen F. Graham Cancer Center at Christiana Hospital.

She was a fixture in her neighborhood, striking up conversations with anyone who passed her front step.  While Shirley’s presence will be greatly missed, there is comfort knowing that she lived her best life surrounded by loving family, friends, and Milo.

Please join us in celebrating Shirley’s life this Spring.  An announcement with details will be provided through Chandler Funeral Home (www.chandlerfuneralhome.com) at a later date.

Condolences

Barbara Andruskiewicz lit a candle and writes,
My sincerest condolences to Shirleys family. Although I was a more recent friend(of only 9 years) she brought her wisdom and energy into my life, for which I will always be grateful. Rest in peace , dear friend.
