Shirley A. Carroll, age 73, of Wilmington, Delaware passed away suddenly on Friday, March 3, 2017 at her home on the Chesapeake Bay in Maryland.
Shirley was born in Camillus, New York, the daughter of the late Victor and Anna Knapp. A graduate of Fredonia State Teachers University, she taught kindergarten in the Rochester, New York public school system. While working in Rochester, Shirley met and married her husband, Michael T. Carroll in 1968. In 1969, she left teaching to raise her children, Michelle and Sean.
In 1980, the family was transferred by DuPont to Wilmington, Delaware where Shirley returned to the classroom. She started the first kindergarten class at Holy Rosary School in Claymont. She taught for 18 years and retired in 1998.
Shirley loved children and was dedicated to helping them grow and develop. She was loyal, caring and giving to her family and friends and will be missed terribly by her three granddaughters.
In addition to her parents, Shirley is also predeceased by her sister Janet Discenza. She is survived by her husband Michael; daughter Michelle Lugg and her husband Sean; son Sean Carroll and his wife Angelina; three granddaughters Emily, Bridget and Violet, and brother John Knapp of Madison, Wisconsin.
