Sergio Michael Romano, “Sal”

Sergio Michael Romano “Sal” passed peacefully on February 24, 2026 surrounded by love and leaving behind a lifetime of memories. Sergio was born in Norristown, PA on October 27, 1982 to Mary Ann Shea and Salvatore Romano.

Sergio graduated from Thomas McKean Highschool, class of 2000.  Sal spent many summers in Dewey beach making memories with countless friends, old and new.  Sergio had an early passion for travel.  Mexico was always a favorite, from road trips through the jungle to floating the “secret Mayan river”.

Sergio lived passionately and fully. He loved his family and friends, adored his “fur babies” and carried pride for his Italian heritage in everything he did.  Whether it was dressing in his unmistakable style, rooting for his beloved Juventus, collecting the finest wines, or cooking meals that brought everyone to the table. He did it with flair and pride. Sergio’s energy was impossible to ignore, he struck up conversations where ever he went able to communicate in both Italian and Spanish. He spoke a language uniquely his own. Through the moments he built friendships that spread not only cities, and states but also countries and cultures.

The kitchen was his sanctuary. Whether it was at home, in a restaurant or a relative or friends house.  Sergio expressed his love through cooking. Creating meals was his art, and gathering people around the table was how he celebrated life. He didn’t just prepare food, he created experiences. There was always an extra plate, always room for one more chair, always laughter rising above the clattering of dishes. For Sergio a meal was never about what was on the table, it was about who was around it, about connection, tradition, and the joy of sharing something made with his own hands.

When he wasn’t cooking Sergio could be found taking long unhurried walks, sinking his toes into the sand, or relaxing poolside in his straw hat with a good book. He had a way of soaking up the sun and reflecting its warmth back onto everyone around him.

Sergio will be profoundly missed and forever remembered by all who were fortunate to know and love him.

He is survived by his beloved mother Mary Ann Shea, Wilmington, De; father, Salvatore Romano (Pina), Palmerton, PA, brother Joseph Shea, Wilmington, DE, sister Giovanna Romano, PA and girl friend Sarah Larson, Tampa, FL.

A service to celebrate Sergio’s life will be held on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, at Chandler Funeral Home in Wilmington, DE. Visitation will be held from 10:00 to 11:30am with a service to begin at 11:30.
