Ruth H. Gooding

Ruth Gooding age 93 of Wilmington Delaware passed away peacefully on August 22, 2017

Ruth was born in 1923 and was the daughter of Mary Soloway Hill and Water W. Hill of Smyrna. She graduated from John Bassett Moore High School (salutatorian) in 1941. Ruth then entered the Methodist Hospital School of Nursing in Philadelphia graduating in 1944. In 1948 she married James A. Gooding.

Ruth worked at Kent General Hospital in Dover DE during World War II and Delaware Health and Social Service. During that time she earned her Bachelor and Master’s Degree in Nursing from the University of Pennsylvania. After her son was born, she was employed as a school nurse at Alexis I. DuPont Middle School and the High School. After retirement, she and her husband did volunteer work for Meals on Wheels and the history committee at St. James Church and traveled extensively throughout Europe. Ruth was predeceased by her husband Jim in 2007 and her son, Steve in 2009. She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Valerie Gooding grandchildren Heather and Dana (Dave), great grandchildren Jason, Nicolette and Jackson and several nieces and nephews.
