Robert M. Bauernschmidt, passed away on December 9, 2020, at the age of 88.
Bob was born in 1932 to Bill and Mae Bauernschmidt in Ridley Park and raised in the Sharon Hill Borough of Delaware County, Pa. Bob attended Sharon Hill High School. Following high school Bob joined the Navy and served four years aboard the USS Samuel N. Moore (DD747) during the Korean Conflict. Bob excelled in a number of sports and was natural athlete. His family and neighborhood kids loved to shag the fly balls he would hit and catch the footballs he would punt at various gatherings. He was an avid sports fan of the Baltimore and Philadelphia teams.
Bob married his wife Fairfax O’Neal and the couple settled in Talleyville and raised three sons: Glenn (Barbara), Alan (Tracey) and Paul (Mary). Bob was a route salesman for Tastykake for nearly three decades and enjoyed keeping track of each item on his truck and in his orders. He never missed a day due to illness but did enjoy frequent golf vacations to Myrtle Beach, S.C. There were few dog legs or fairway bunkers that he didn’t think he could bypass with his driver.
For most of his life Bob enjoyed golfing with his sons and weekends and summers in Hack’s Point, Md. at the Ivy Cottage, a summer home purchased by his parents in 1946.
In retirement he kept himself busy with small jobs in the area. Bob’s quick wit and gentle soul made him a pleasure to have in your company. He treasured his family most of all and marveled at the good fortune his family brought him.
Bob is survived by his loving and devoted wife Fairfax, sister Beverly Taylor, his sons and daughters-in-law, and his nine grandchildren: Melanie, Amy, Katelyn, Christopher, Aidan, Lauren, Blake, Erica and Jamie. Bob was also thrilled with is great-grandson Oliver Robert. We were blessed to have Bob. We are glad to have him welcomed home by his parents Bill and Mae and his late siblings Dorothy, George, and Bill.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758516, Topeka, Kansas 66675-8516
