Robert Lamont Barrowcliff

Robert “Bob” Barrowcliff, age 96, of Wilmington, Delaware, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 13, 2026 at Christiana Care Hospital in Wilmington surrounded by his loving family.

Bob was born in Los Angeles, California in 1930 and moved to Scranton, PA when he was three where he grew up and attended the University of Scranton, graduating in 1951. He served two years in the US Army after which he joined Hercules Power Company in Wilmington, DE where he worked until retiring in 1990. While at Hercules, he had two overseas assignments – Lahore, Pakistan and Sao Paulo, Brazil – certainly the highlights of his long career.

Bob and Betty enjoyed fisherman’s beach in Rehoboth for many years and became snowbirds to Clearwater, FL after retirement as he was an ardent Philadelphia Phillies fan and worked for them during spring training for 11 years. Throughout his long life, he was dedicated to being physically fit and was an avid runner, an active, lifelong member of the Wilmington Central YMCA and enjoyed many other sports, including tennis, squash and horseback riding. Also, he was a Harry Potter aficionado and a daily listener to WDEL. His home was a source of joy when his family would visit, and many memories were made on the patio and around the dining room table.

He was predeceased by his wife, Betty, his wife of 41 years, granddaughter, Jodie and his first wife, Lois, of 21 years, mother of Stuart and Carol. He is survived by his two children, Stuart Barrowcilff (Regina) of South Burlington, VT and Carol Ann (Barrowcliff) Giampietro (Michael) of Garnet Valley, PA; two step-children, Wilson “Buddy” Bryan (Sharon) of Wilmington, DE and Nancy (Bryan) Adams of Homosassa Springs, FL; nine grandchildren – Alexander, Gabriela MacGillivray (Ross), Erin Barnaba (Demetri), Sean, Jamie Brown (Brian), John Ryan Adams (Kate), Jake, Marikate and Karl; and seven great grandchildren – Alex Joel, Benjamin, Demetri, Eliana, Carter, John and Bennett.

Services will be private.

Memorial contributions may be made in Bob’s memory to the Central YMCA, 501 W. 11th Street, Wilmington, DE 19801.
