Patricia Rothermel passed away peacefully on February 14, 2026, at the age of 74, surrounded by her loving family. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, and friend whose warmth and steady presence shaped the lives of all who knew her.
Pat was born in Waynesboro, Virginia to Wallace and Barbara Steinspring. She was the youngest of four children and cherished a childhood filled with love, handmade outfits from her mother, and baton twirling with her sisters. She attended James Madison University and took pride in forging her own path.
She built a beautiful life in northern Virginia and raised her three children, Charley, Spencer, and Sammie. Pat loved having people around. She was equally famous for her warm hospitality, lively spirit and the “Postal Pat” license plate on her Jeep during her USPS days. In recent years, she relocated to Delaware to be closer to her daughter, cherishing the extra time spent surrounded by family.
A woman of unwavering dedication and strong work ethic, Pat was deeply committed to her career. Most recently, she worked at Today Media as a beloved administrative assistant. She took pride in her work and was respected not only for her effectiveness, but for her kindness, loyalty, and reliability.
While she valued her career, her most treasured role in life was that of “Granny.” Her six grandchildren were the light of her life. She was magic to them — pure sunshine and joy. There wasn’t a problem in the world that a Granny snuggle couldn’t fix. She made every moment brighter, every holiday warmer, and every ordinary day more fun. Her love was steady, selfless, and immeasurable.
She loved tending to her vegetable garden and found peace among her flowers. She was an incredible baker, famous for her annual Christmas cookie trays that were truly award-worthy and eagerly anticipated each year.
The beach was her happy place. She treasured long summer days spent swimming, searching for sand crabs and seashells with her grandchildren, and relaxing on the deck with her beloved dog, Blinky. Boardwalk trips for Louie’s, Fisher’s Popcorn, and winning claw machine treasures for the grandkids became cherished traditions and lasting memories.
Pat is survived by her three children, Charley Rothermel, Spencer Rothermel (Liz), and Sammie Lee (Matt); her six adored grandchildren (Hayden, Leighton, Axel, Landon, Miles and Nolan); her two sisters (Rebecca and Linda), and extended family and dear friends who will miss her deeply. She was predeceased by her parents and her brother, Richard Armstrong.
Pat’s legacy lives on in the traditions she created, the love she gave so freely, and the countless lives she touched. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
Friends and family are invited to gather in celebration of Pat’s life on Saturday, February 28, 2026, at Chandler Funeral Home, 2506 Concord Pike, Wilmington, DE, 19803. A visitation will be held from 10:00am to 11:00am with a service beginning at 11:00am.
