Norene Oswald

Norene Seybert Oswald of Wilmington has peacefully passed away on October 31, 2022. She was born in Berwick, PA in July of 1932 to Freas Howard Seybert and Grace Kleckner Seybert. Norene was a 9th generation Sebastian Seybert Descendant, who was one of the original settlers of the Salem Township, Berwick Area. She held dear many fond memories of her years growing up there.
In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her husband Harold Oswald, daughter Brenda Osowski, brother Delvin Seybert, and step-granddaughter Tracy Osowski.

Norene is survived by her daughter Lori (Tom) Cushing of Newark, her grandson Michael Osowski of Wilmington, and her brother Roland Seybert of Berwick. PA. She is also survived by Frank Osowski and his children/her step-grandchildren Frank (Jacky) Osowski, Jane (Scot) Keefer and step-great-grandchildren Maddy, Ben and Charlotte Osowski, and Sarah, Jenny, and Carly Keefer. In addition, she is survived by much loved cousins, nieces, nephews, and longtime friends.

Norene spent the early years being a stay-at-home mom, very involved in her daughters’ activities from girl scouts, cheerleading, camps, crafts, etc. Hers was the home where all her daughters’ friends would “hang out” and feel welcome. To this day many of Lori and Brenda’s childhood friends were still in contact with Norene several times a year.

After the girls were in school, she held various part time positions in retail sales and then became a licensed insurance representative working fulltime at Stafford Agency, later with and retiring from INA/CIGNA. After retirement, she continued to work part-time for several State Farm Agents.

As a family they enjoyed many years camping up and down the east coast which was continued later with her Grandson Michael. In their retirement, she and her husband continued travelling around the country with much appreciation for its beauty, in their RV with their beloved springer spaniel Sadie.

Norene was a lover of all thing’s nature and outdoors, spending countless hours cultivating her flower/vegetable gardens and continued this joy of gardening into her 80’s. She appreciated years of visiting the beauty of Longwood Gardens and they often were an inspiration for her displays! She had been a volunteer at Hagley Museum helping with flower arrangements and a former member of a garden club. She also loved watching and feeding all the birds in her yard and could name all the varieties. In her later years she spent her time reading, playing the piano, communicating on Facebook, playing cards on her laptop, cooking, and watching college football (GO Penn State!)

She was a 50+ year member of Marshallton United Methodist Church where she served the church in many capacities during those years, while making lasting friendships.

She will be remembered as a caring mom, grandmother, aunt, cousin, and friend and will be dearly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her and her intellect in these last 90 years.

The family would like to thank Complete Care Brackenville for the kind and compassionate care given by the nurses, aides and therapy team during the last few months and especially during her last weeks when she needed the most care. You are all truly a blessing!

Although she loved flowers, she asked for donations to Marshallton United Methodist Church, 1105 Stanton Rd., Wilmington DE 19808, or Faithful Friends Animal Society, 12 Germay Dr, Wilmington, DE 19804.

So sorry to just be hearing of your mom’s passing. I met her and your dad through Irv Klair and the car shows that we attended. Although I didn’t know her very well she was a very sweet lady. I always enjoyed getting a Christmas card from her each year after your dad and Irv passed. We even met for lunch one day. I’m sure you have a lot of great memories to get you through this sad time.
