Michael James Scott

Our beloved Michael James Scott, 67, of Wilmington, Delaware passed away on September 28, 2018 with his family by his side.

He was born to the late Mary (Hussey) and Raymond Scott in Wilmington, Delaware.

Mike was a graduate of Salesianum High School in 1970 and received a BA in Accounting from the University of Delaware in 1974. Mike was always proud of his Delaware education and said it made all the difference in his life.

He worked at the former Hercules, Inc., as a Finance Executive for 21 years and had many happy memories of the people he worked with there.

After retirement, Mike was involved as a volunteer in many community service organizations. He served as State Treasurer for Delaware’s Sons of Italy for many years and received a Distinguished Service Award in 2017. Mike was also a Treasurer for the Auburn Heights Steam Engine Museum combining his love of cars and numbers. He enjoyed working with the Rehoboth Beach Buddy Walk for many years and was proud to be a member of the Dewey Beach Lions Club and Rehoboth VFW.

Mike enjoyed life to the fullest and had numerous hobbies and interests. He loved gardening, home improvement projects, traveling the world with Peg, driving his many cars (as fast as possible), beach life in Rehoboth, bocce ball games at Giuseppe Verdi Italian Club, old TV westerns, his many dogs and partying with his countless friends at the Warehouse or the beach.

Mike was a kind and generous man who loved his family and friends and would do all he could to help them. His fun loving nature and bright blue eyes will never be forgotten by those of us who loved him.

Mike is survived by his wife Peg Raimondi Scott; his sister Susan Scott; his brother Stephen Scott and wife Carmen and by his many loving nieces and nephews and their growing families.

The Scott family would like to thank Dr. David Biggs and staff of the Helen Graham Center, Dr. Kenneth Tzetkowski, Palliative Care and Heartland Hospice for their loving care of Michael through his journey.

All friends and family are invited to Mike’s Life Celebration at the Mendenhall Inn, 323 Kennett Pike, Mendenhall, PA 19357 on Friday October 5 from 12-3 pm.

So many great memories, what a great guy! Fun-loving, bright, caring. Joe says: Those University of Delaware adventures would not have happened without Mike! Janet says: So glad we got to spend some beach time (and party time!) with Mike and Peg. We both have very fond memories of the time we all vacationed together on Cozumel. The day we went to the agave fields to learn how tequila was made was particularly, uh, educational...

Peg, so sorry to hear of Mike's passing. He will be remembered fondly by many... I remember Stoney bringing him home for dinner many times during the college years. We all loved those dinner's and Mom loved cooking for them all! He stayed in our lives after many moved on, attending weddings and other gatherings through the years. Hagley fireworks stand out in the memories! So glad the friendship lasted! We will miss him, and are better for him touching our lives! Peggy and Donnie

    Suzanne Eder writes,
Mike was such a bright light during my time at Hercules. His humor, his kindness and his irrepressible spirit brought levity and fun into my experience of being at work. I remember one staff meeting in particular, during which we were on a conference call with our colleagues in Europe. Mike passed around a quick drawing he'd done on an office message pad that was just the teeniest bit subversive, and each one of us in turn had to suppress a giggle, lest George MacKenzie think we weren't paying attention to matters at hand. (Which, of course, we weren't!) The last time I saw Mike was at the Concord Mall, where I ran into him unexpectedly. We were both delighted to see each other and sat down on one of the mall benches to catch up. I was taken with how deeply peaceful he seemed to be, and how profoundly grateful he was for Peg and for his wonderful life. I had never seen him happier, and that did my heart good. I feel sadness that neither of us acted on our "let's get everyone together for some fun" idea, yet I hope and trust that he continued to love his life until he made his transition. And I know his buoyant spirit lives on. Bon Voyage, Mike! Have fun lighting up the afterlife.

    Frank Morris writes,
So sorry to hear of Mike’s passing. Met Mike at the dances back in the high school days. (Yes over 50 years ago.) Over the past 50+ years every time we ran into each other at some function or the beach it was always like we just saw each other yesterday, never missed a beat. Always laughing, always joking, but always caring. He will be missed by many, thankful that we had our time, just not enough. My sincere condolences to family and friends . . .
