McHenry Peters Jr

McHenry Peters Jr, 93, of Glen Mills, Pennsylvania, passed away on July 30, 2022.

He was born in Lynchburg Virginia, the son of McHenry and Lelia (Barker) Peters. McHenry grew up in Lynchburg and graduated #1 in his class at E.C. Glass High School. He attended Hampton-Sydney College and graduated from University of Virginia. He received his MD from University of Pennsylvania in 1954. During his residency in Ann Arbor, Michigan he met Bonnie Bates, and they were married in 1956. He served four years in the Army and was stationed at Huntsville, Alabama. Following his service in the Army, he and his family settled in Wilmington Delaware. He was a radiologist for 30 years, serving at several hospitals in the Wilmington area. From 1977-1986 he was appointed by Governor Pierre S. Dupont IV to serve on the Authority of Radiation Protection of the State of Delaware. After his retirement, he received the prestigious Fellow of the American College of Radiology (FACR) honor in 1991.

His hobbies included photography, music, tennis, sailing and keeping current with the latest technology.

Survivors include Bonnie, his wife of 66 years and three sons: Lee (Brenda) Peters, Stephen (Karen) Peters and Scott (Renva) Peters. Also, four grandchildren: Karen (Scott) Martinelli, Susan (Ben) Akinbola, Alex Peters and Mason Peters.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Maris Grove Resident Care Fund.

Funeral Services

The family will celebrate his life in a private gathering.

I enjoyed working with McHenry all those many years at Xray Associates. He was a good and kind man and an excellent radiologist and mentor to me.
