Maureen Catherine Lesutis

On January 29, 2022, after a brief illness, Maureen Catherine Lesutis (nee McGarvey), passed away peacefully with her family at her side. She was born in Philadelphia to parents Thomas and Catherine and raised in Delaware County along with her brother John and beloved grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins.

Maureen graduated from Notre Dame High School in Moylan, PA. It was through her high school friend, Jeanne, that she was introduced to her future spouse, Paul Lesutis. What started as a trip to the Poconos with a group of friends and a ride courtesy of Jeanne’s brother, Paul, evolved into a marriage of 56 years and created an inseparable pair and devoted family. She is survived by her husband, Paul, her daughters Mary Lesutis Fitzhenry (Larry), Erin Mundy (Tim) and Bridget Hintze (Philip), her son Michael (Kristin), and her twelve grandchildren. She was and will forever be the center of our lives.

Throughout her life, Maureen was an active volunteer at her children’s schools and in the local community. Her time spent in the office of St. Mary Magdalen School created an enduring bond and lasting friendships with the students and their parents. Her service to Archmere Academy’s Mothers Guild exemplified her dedication to her children and those things instrumental to their success in life. It was through these early volunteer opportunities that Maureen found her calling at the Ministry of Caring. Working tirelessly over 40 years, she was an example of honor and compassion to her children, her friends and all those she met. Her deeds, given from the heart, earned her the following recognition:

• Wilmington Award for outstanding service to the residents of Wilmington
• The Caring Bowl presented in recognition of her service to God’s poor
• 2016 Association of Fundraising Professionals Volunteer Award for her exceptional leadership in motivating volunteers for the benefit of charity
• Honored at the 35th Anniversary of the Ministry of Caring for her service to the mission of the organization
• Presented with a Medallion of the 40th Anniversary of the Ministry of Caring “for those who have made four decades of service to the poor possible”.

As her good friend Brother Ronald once said, “Maureen has a real large heart.”

Above all else, Maureen was an adored and doting MomMom to her grandchildren. From the early days of walks and babysitting to baking cookies and sharing a love of doughnuts on the beach house deck, MomMom was there for her grandchildren at every call. Her love for them was returned in kind. She is greatly missed and will live on in the hearts of Madeleine and Catherine Fitzhenry, Thomas, Patrick, Ronan and Gillian Mundy, Eva and Paul Lesutis, and Jude, William, John and Mimi Hintze.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Ministry of Caring in Wilmington (ministryofcaring.org).

May your wonderful memories of joyful family times bring you comfort and may God's love give you peace. Thank you for remembering Maureen's life of family, faith, friends, service and love for the neediest among us by caring for the poor. We are so very grateful. Maureen was a member of our 'family' and we too loved her very much. Thank you for sharing her with us. I feel so awful about your mom. She was such a good friend and I will miss.her. We always had such fun reminiscing about the day’s when our children were young. Mary I remember walking down to introduce myself when your mom and Dad moved in. You were looking down from upstairs too scared to come down. By next visit I was your friend. Then came Erin and those adorable little sun suits. Loved watching you go up the hill and swinging that cute little butt. Number three was Michael you were so cute and I loved watching you and my boy’s playing ball. Do you remember Atari? Bridgett I remember the day your mom found out she was pregnant with you. She was very surprised but happy and your dad was on cloud nine. Don’t remember much of your childhood because you moved away while you were still little. I do remember how cute you were though. I will pray for your mom and all of you. Love you. Joan
