Mary Ann Kennedy

Mary Ann Kennedy (Brady), 80, of Wilmington, Delaware, passed away peacefully on December 5, 2024, surrounded by her beloved husband of 44 years, Ronald J. Kennedy Sr., and her daughter Kelly Moore and son-in-law Glenn. Mary Ann was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and sister.

Born to James and Celia McHale Brady, both Scottish and Irish Catholic immigrants, Mary Ann placed great value on family and faith. She was the cherished sister of Jack, Jim, Gerry, David, Joe, and baby Michael, all of whom preceded her in death. Mary Ann held her brothers deeply in her heart, always fondly recalling their “blue eyes.”

A testament to her dedication and intellect, Mary Ann earned a full scholarship to Padua Academy, where she graduated with honors in 1962. She continued her education at Neumann College and received an associate’s degree in the arts 1989. Throughout her career, she worked as Head Cashier at A&P, later as an Administrative Sales Manager at Sunroc, and eventually as a sales associate at Plum Master, until her retirement in 2010.

Mary Ann loved reading mystery novels, solving crossword puzzles, and traveling with Ron to New Orleans, where they enjoyed the jazz scene and the vibrant French Quarter sipping their Hurricanes.

She is survived by her husband, children, and grandchildren. Mary Ann treasured spending time with her grandchildren, Alexus, Lindsey, Jacob & Nicki playing games and enjoying sleepovers. Though time did not allow for her to meet all of her grandchildren, she would have been overjoyed to know them.

After bravely battling dementia and Alzheimer’s for 14+ years, Mary Ann received compassionate care at Manor Care & special thanks to Delaware Hospice for the extra care and support they offered during Mary Ann’s final journey. In accordance with her wishes, her body was donated to the University of Delaware, and she will be laid to rest at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery alongside her husband.
