During her 20-year career with Smith Barney, she was a champion of the employees and generously invested her time and resources in guiding the professional development of her colleagues.

In addition to her career, Marie loved to travel both domestically and internationally. She was very proud of her Italian American heritage and most enjoyed her trips to Italy. During her retirement, Marie adopted two Chihuahua puppies, Vino and Dante, who became her steadfast companions. Marie also spent much of her retirement as an active volunteer at the Wilmington Visitor’s Bureau and the Sojourner’s Place.

Marie is preceded in death by her sisters: Angie Shield, Carmella O’Brien, Lorina Mower, and Georgia Burrola. She is survived by her loving sister, Dorothy Dempsey; her nephew, Craig Yates; her niece, Janene Dempsey; and her brother, Doug Stockton. She leaves a large extended, loving family and a circle of dear friends. The family would like to thank her good friends; Judy Taibi, Joyce Konza, and Terri Greer for being such a strong and caring support system for Marie.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be gifted to the Sojourner’s Place or a local animal shelter, both of which were close to Marie’s heart.

Condolences

Craig Yates lit a candle and writes,
As many times that you reflect back on shared moments regarding someone that is very near having passed away, inside you wish you could just see them one more time. Hear their voice, share a memory and make them laugh. Tell them how much they meant to you. My Aunt is certainly that person. Although she lived far away, we all stayed in touch. She was my Godmother and never failed to send me a card for special occasions. I recently learned since being back to her home this last year that from her circle of friends in Delaware how giving she really was. Mentoring so many people at Smith Barney. Inspiring their career moves and encouraging them to become successful. How unassuming in her character she was. What a wonderful legacy she has left. Moreover to be a part of the Montoro bloodline makes me so very proud for these exact reasons. It is evident that both my mother and aunt being sisters share this trait. Such humble childhoods and background growing up in Carbon County to achieving as they have. I know my children, grandchildren, sister and nieces are enormously proud too. Our Italian heritage like Aunt Marie's was and always will be sacred. So Aunt Marie here is my selfish wish one more time...A plate of your delicious spaghetti, sharing a glass of wine and those incredible heartwarming stories from Grandma Bianco's cramped kitchen on K Street with us all. Priceless. I will think about you every day... Craig
