Margaret “Peg” Lord

Margaret “Peg” Lord, 90, of Wilmington, DE, died peacefully at home with her family on Monday, August 30, 2021. Mrs. Lord was born in 1930 in West Grove, PA to John “Jack” O’Brien and Emma McGovern O’Brien, the second of eight children. She was a graduate of Oxford High School class of 1948 and earned a BS in Home Economics from Seton Hill College in Greenburg, PA in 1952. She taught high school for several years before becoming a full-time homemaker, mother, and volunteer. She married her beloved husband, Keith M. Lord, in 1957.

Peg was devoted to her family, her Faith and community. She used her many talents in service to others. She volunteered with many organizations including St. Mary of the Assumption Church, of which she was a devout member for over 50 years and St. Francis’ Hospital, where she was a Junior Board member and president for many years. Peggy was a Life Member of National Garden Clubs, Inc. and the Delaware Federation of Garden Clubs, where she served in many roles, including president, and there she expressed her love and expertise of horticulture and floral design.

Peg touched many people throughout her long and rich life. Her love and generosity were felt far and wide throughout her family, her friends and neighbors, and to those whom she touched by her charitable works. She was a talented cook who will be remembered for her love of entertaining and the parties she hosted in her beautiful home filled with antique treasures she and Keith collected through the years and her yard filled with dozens of varieties of flowers. Peg also loved the holidays and always welcomed anyone who needed a substitute family to share in these festive celebrations. Peg will be greatly missed but will always remain as an inspiration to those whom she leaves behind.

Peg is survived by: her devoted husband of 64 years, Keith M. Lord; her four children, Gregory M. Lord, of Media, PA, Elliot Lord and his wife, Lynda, of Newark, DE, Martin K. Lord, of Kennett Square, PA and Caroline Lord, of Wilmington, DE; her three granddaughters, Lexi Lord, Ali Lord Pannoni, and Kaitlin Lord; her Siblings, Daniel O’Brien, Elizabeth Monger, Rose Adams and Sue Atkinson;  and dozens of nieces and nephews and others.
