Loretta M. Strange

Loretta M. Strange, age 89, beloved wife and mother, of Wilmington, DE passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 15, 2026.

Loretta was born in 1937 in Pennsylvania. From early in life she had a passion for singing, and after graduating from Frankford High School was professionally trained at the Philadelphia Conservatory of Music, and was selected to sing with the Philadelphia Orchestra Chorus for the 1956-1957 season. She married her high school sweetheart Jack F. Strange in 1958 and lived in Happy Valley where their passion for all things Penn State started.  After Jack joined DuPont and they started a family, they travelled the world together living in Germany, Japan and all along the east coast of the US. After retirement she and Jack moved to Bonita Springs Florida where she lived until 2018 when she relocated back to this area after his passing in 2010.

Loretta’s lifelong love of singing and music brought joy to so many. Loretta was a soprano who enjoyed performing in operas with Opera Delaware from the late 1970´s through the 90´s.  She was a member of the choir at Trinity Presbyterian and later in Bonita Springs First Presbyterian church, Bonita Bay Singers, Voices of Naples and numerous other singing groups.  A highlight of her singing career was performing at the White House with the Grace Notes during the Clinton administration, where Loretta sang a duet of I Wonder as I Wander.  In addition to music, she loved to garden, travel, cook, read and spend time with her family.

Loretta, who was preceded in death by her husband of over 50 years, Jack Strange, and is survived by her two children, Robert Strange and his wife Melanie, and Susan Malloy and her husband John, and four grandchildren, Nicholas, Benjamin, Alease and John III.

Funeral Services

A memorial service will be held at 11 am on Thursday March 26 at Trinity Presbyterian church.  Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Presbyterian church, 1120 Darley Road, Wilmington DE 19810.
