Landa Carmenia Cannon, age 72, of Wilmington, Delaware, passed away on Wednesday, February 18, 2026.
He was born in 1953 in Seaford, Delaware, to the late Stephen Leon Cannon and Gertrude Hettie Cannon. From an early age, Landa carried a quiet strength and determination that would guide him throughout his life.
As a young man, he found joy and pride as a percussionist in the Laurel High School marching band. The rhythm of the drums reflected his steady spirit and love for teamwork. He graduated from Laurel High School in 1971, stepping into adulthood with curiosity and ambition.
After exploring several career paths, Landa chose to follow in the footsteps of his brother, Knoxville Cannon, and enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1972. His service gave him the opportunity to travel, including time spent in Guam—an experience he truly cherished.
In 1985, he continued his military journey by joining the United States Navy. During his two years aboard the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower, Landa traveled to several overseas destinations. Those years at sea became some of the most memorable and rewarding of his life, filled with pride, purpose, and brotherhood.
After seven years and five months of military service, Landa concluded his service to his country. He leaves behind a legacy of dedication and courage, honored by the Sea Service Deployment Ribbon with three stars, the Navy Commendation Ribbon, and the Navy Expeditionary Medal.
Landa leaves to cherish his precious memories his brother, Knoxville Layfield Cannon (Jean) of Austin, TX; his sister, Febra Arnette Purnell of Ellendale DE; and a host of loving nieces and nephews. His life was marked by service, resilience, and love for family!
A viewing will be held on Thursday, February 26, 2026 from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm at the Chandler Funeral Home, 2506 Concord Pike, Wilmington, DE 19803. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 12:00 pm. Interment will be private.
