Kenneth Douglas (Doug) Schindler

Kenneth Douglas (Doug) Schindler, 71, of Hockessin, DE returned to his heavenly home on January 29, 2017 after a courageous battle with colon cancer. His devotion to his family and his strong Christian faith supported him in his struggle and ultimately gave him peace.

Doug was born to the late Kenneth and Luella Schindler, dairy farmers, in Cosby, MO in 1945. He developed his work ethic at a young age as he assisted his parents during long hours on their farm and later graduated from Northwest Missouri in 1967 with a degree in business management. Doug began his career in Ponca City, OK at Conoco and then transferred to Dupont in 1990. Doug held a myriad of IT and finance positions throughout the years.

Doug was blessed with a large and loving family. He married his best friend, Joyce Schindler, on September 1, 1974 in Oklahoma City, OK. Doug was a role model for his three children in many ways. He was a ferocious reader with an immense passion for history and he loved to watch, play, and coach all sports. In recent years, he passed much of his time golfing and volunteering at Hagley Museum.

Doug’s second home was the Hockessin United Methodist Church where he taught Sunday School to young adults for 25 years and managed the finances as treasurer for the congregation. When Doug and Joyce moved to Hockessin, DE, they were immersed in a church community filled with faith, love, and friends that would become their extended family.

Doug is survived by his wife, Joyce; daughter Gina (Bill) Kerr; sons Zac (Lauren) and Bart (Vanessa) Schindler; his grandchildren Garrett and Kaitlin Kerr; his sister Glenda (Chuck) McDonnell; and his brother David (Susan) Schindler and many nieces, nephews, and extended family.
