Katherine Tucker

Katherine Browning Tucker died on June 24, 2025 after a lengthy illness.

Katherine (Kayte), the daughter of J. Richard Tucker (deceased) and Barbara Graham Tucker was born in Washington, D.C. September of 1973.  She graduated from The Tatnall School and the University of Delaware.

During her earlier years Kayte worked for the Mary Campell Center and The Bank of America.    Kayte courageously battled a number of medical issues. She showed inspirational hope and resilience following multiple surgeries and difficult diagnosis and offered strength to those in her inner network.

Kayte was active in gastroparesis support groups and personally petitioned the State of Delaware for greater recognition and understanding of this disease. For four consecutive years, Governor Carney offered a Proclamation in Observance of Gastroparesis Awareness Month.

Kayte loved reading books, especially while sunning on the beach at Lewes.  She had numerous artistic talents, and created interesting paintings and pieces of art.  She loved to crochet and made scarves and blankets that she gave to others.  Kayte was a lovely writer, often expressing her deepest feelings in poems.

Kayte had a large community of ‘online’ friends and will be remembered for her kind and generous spirit.

Kayte is survived by her mother, Barbara Tucker of Wilmington and Lewes, DE, her brother, Graham Tucker of Chicago, IL and nephews, Ethan Tucker, and Corbin Tucker of Kennett Square, PA.

Barbara and Graham, I know there are no words that are very consoling for you at this time, but I join the many others who hold you in our thoughts and prayers. Kayte was an inspiration to all of us, battling her health problems for so long. Yet whenever I would see her, she had a smile on her face and an upbeat attitude. Her strength and courage sets an example for all of us. Take care of yourselves. Fondly, Anita

    Anthony Dougherty writes,
Dear Barbara, So sorry to hear about Kayte’s passing. We first met her so many years ago when you were in Woodland Hills. I also had a long conversation with her at Richard’s funeral reception at Christ Church. I remember Kayte as a lively child full of spirit and lots of talk about her young life. Again the adult Kayte, knowing my long friendship with Richard and you, was open with me about her adult life. She was very intelligent and aware. Nevertheless, my mother and my older sister had to bury an adult child and both felt it was the hardest moment of their lives. I send my heartfelt thoughts to you at this difficult time. My Kathy also passed away in 2018, and I am alone in SF. Nora and Rob live in Westchester County, NY, and have three daughters, two in high school and one in college. Conor lives with his wife, Candace in Studio City, not too far from Woodland Hills. They have a girl and boy in early grade school. With Condolences to you and Grahm, Your old friend, Anthony Dougherty

    Edie Symons Stanton writes,
Dear Barbara and Graham, I am so sorry to hear of Kayte’s passing. My heart aches for you. I will forever remember how at peace she was showing off her incredible gymnastics skills outside of the pink house in Lewes. I could barely do a round off and here Kayte in sand could do a floor routine that made Olympic athletes drool. The only consolation is that she is no longer in pain. I am so sorry for your loss. Wish I had known about the service yesterday. I would have been there to support you. Hold each other tight. Edie

Dearest Barbara- an so the struggle of Katye’s health issues is over. She was amazing how she soldiered on, with your support always. I will always remember her sitting on our porch in Lewes, with her jewelry and makeup on, with her bathing suit, looking so stylish while we talked about our mutual issues. I am so saddened for you and Graham, Edie and I would have been there yesterday if we had known about the funeral. I’m sure that it was lovely. Peace to you both, and to Kayte at last. Sending love and prayers. ( thanks to my daughter Kate for finding this site)

    Cathy Middleton Raphael writes,
Dearest Barbara: I AM FLABBERGASTED at the news that I just received about precious Katie (Natalie Ford just told me on the phone) - and I certainly would have been at her service, had I known yesterday!!! What a darling and sweet spirit she was - and I always loved her!! I am missing my precious Ben daily since he left this world on 3/15 - and I know how you must feel. I have cried a bucket of tears and a day does not go by without missing him terribly! THAT SAID, I certainly know where Katie is now - and she must be ecstatic!! (and dear Ben, too - since he came to Jesus 4 days before he left this earth! The fact that he attended church with me for 37 years, I'm sure, helped him to realize the situation - and before he knew me, he said, he never KNEW that Jesus was Jewish!) I know your darling children have been raised to belong to Jesus - and thank goodness you were such a loving parent to those two! I still remember how precious they were as youngsters!!! SPECIAL HUGS TO YOU! Cathy
