Joyce “Joy” (Butler) Walker, age 80, passed away peacefully on February 3, 2026, surrounded by her loving family, after a short battle with cancer.
Joy was born in 1945 to the late William and Margaret C. Butler. She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 43 years, Joseph E. Walker; her grandson, John R. Schmidt; and her sister, Margaret Ann “Peggy” Graber.
Joy grew up in Aston, Pennsylvania, and was a graduate of Sun Valley High School. Throughout her adult life, she made her home in Linwood, PA, and Claymont, DE. During her marriage, Joy was a devoted housewife who dedicated herself to her family and community.
She was actively involved in her community, serving as a Mickey Vernon Little League Girls Softball coach, Secretary for the Lower Chichester Township Board of Commissioners and a member of the Aniline Village Neighborhood Association.
Joy also enjoyed selling Avon and Tupperware and worked at Kmart and Walmart.
In her free time, Joy loved camping, traveling, bingo, ceramics, other crafts and shopping on Amazon. She was an avid Phillies and Eagles fan, a passion she proudly shared with her family.
Joy is survived by her 5 children: Joseph (Jodi) Walker, Gail Strain, Carrie Ann (Tony) Oswald, Christine (Russell) Schmidt and William “Craig” (Bobbie Jo) Walker. Sister Jo-Ann Roberts and brother William Butler; 14 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and many loving nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, February 27, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Edgewood Memorial Park, 325 Baltimore Pike, Glen Mills, PA 19342.
At Joy’s request, guests are encouraged to wear Phillies’ or Eagles’ attire or dress casually.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Joy’s memory to your favorite charity.
