On January 15, 2017, Joan Tsakiris Hondry, age 85, was reunited with the love of her life, John V. Hondry, with whom she shared 48 happy years of marriage, before his death in 2004.
Joan was born in January of 1932 to the late Stratos and Mary (Mandakos) Tsakiris in New York, NY and at the age of 9 moved with her family to Baltimore, MD. Joan graduated from Forrest Park High School in Baltimore as a Varsity Letter Athlete. She continued her education in fine arts with an emphasis in Portraiture, a passion she carried throughout her lifetime. Joan and John married and moved to Delaware where she worked for the State of Delaware and later as a loan administrator for J.P. Morgan Bank.
Joan devoted her life to her family, and spending time with them was her greatest love. She loved her trips to the beach, enjoyed the boardwalk, people watching, skee-ball, chocolate ice cream on a sugar cone, and the smell of the salt air. Her trip to Greece, the country of her heritage, was a memory she cherished and her ultimate vacation spot was Aruba.
Joan was head of the PTA when her children were in grade school and she remained involved in the activities of her children and grandchildren throughout the years.
She loved playing cards, sweet treats, peach tea, crab cakes, pink lipstick, walking in Bellevue Park, watching “The Young and the Restless” and a good back rub from a loved one.
Joan was predeceased by her husband John, her sister Cassandra Kalogeropoulos, her brother Chris Tsakiris, and her daughter-in-law Delma “Cookie” Hondry. She is survived by her loving sons Bill V. Hondry and Steve J. Hondry and her loving daughter Stacey H. Bacchieri and her husband Gregg, her sister Christine Flax and husband Ernie, her grandchildren John Hondry (Victoria), Kim Gardner (Josh), Krista Bacchieri, Nolan Bacchieri, her great-grandchildren Keira, Alyssa, Jocelyn and Julian, her God-daughter Stefany Gittleman, her niece Anne Perrone and many other nieces, nephews and relatives.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her honor to the Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition, 111 W. 11th St #3, Wilmington, DE 19801.
