Joan Homiak-Lloyd

Joan Homiak-Lloyd, age 90, passed away peacefully on March 29, 2023, at The Summit in Hockessin, DE, with her son by her side.

Joan was born in Greenville, DE, to Ralph and Mildred Eskridge. She attended Alexis I. DuPont High School where she was active in sports and activities until she graduated in 1950. Her high school friendships remained invaluable to her, as she regularly attended reunions and kept in touch with her closest friends for the next 50+ years.

Joan enjoyed spending time in Fenwick Island and her backyard pool in the summers, as well as picking crabs and barbequing with family. She was musically gifted and loved singing and

playing the piano. She used her natural creativity to craft floral arrangements and holiday decorations that are still enjoyed by her family today. Joan loved to laugh and was a big fan of

classic TV shows, like the Andy Griffith Show and Carol Burnett.

Most of all, Joan loved to cook and host for her family and friends. Her holiday dinner traditions have been passed down through generations, along with many of her famous recipes. Joan’s friends and family were always well-fed when they visited.

Most importantly, Joan is remembered for loving her family fiercely. She was always involved in her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren’s lives and regularly attended their school and sporting events. Her grandchildren will remember all the fun at grandmom’s house, including baking, swimming, and having sleep overs with the best bedtime stories and nighttime treats.

Joan was predeceased by her parents and her husband, Benjamin. She is survived by her three children, Albert “Skip” Homiak, Michael Homiak, and Deborah Leach, her two brothers, Philip (Barbara) and Richard (Marie), six grandchildren, Rudy Homiak, Veronica Parisi (Michael), Brandon Copper, Jackie Connelly (Mark), Dylan Homiak, and Sofia Homiak; and five great-grandchildren, Jake, Madison, Luke, Elijah, and Silas.

A special “thank you” to her many care-givers over the previous few years at The Summit and VITAS Healthcare. Their love and support toward Joan was invaluable.

A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, April 4, 2023, at 11:00 AM at Chandler Funeral Home, 7230 Lancaster Pike, Hockessin, DE, 19707. A visitation will be held prior from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. Interment will follow at Lower Brandywine Presbyterian Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, please consider contributing to the SPCA or a local dog shelter, as Joan was a dog lover.
