Joan B. Marshall

Joan passed away on September 25, 2017 after an eight-year battle with Alzheimer’s disease. She was born on September 17, 1933 to Elmer F. Bauer, Jr. and Alice Kinsey Bauer in Lancaster, PA.

She was a graduate of Manor-Millersville High School in 1951. She then moved to Wilmington, DE where she attended Goldey-Beacom College while working in DuPont’s Co-op Program with the College.

In 1957, she met her future husband, Albert R. Marshall, at a dance at the DuPont Country Club and they were married in 1958.

Her 11-year career at DuPont involved secretarial positions in the Engineering, Advertising and General Services Departments. She left DuPont in 1962 to raise her family.

She was a 50-year member of the DuPont Country Club and enjoyed golf, tennis and bowling. She loved ballroom dancing and, with her husband, was a long-term member of the DuBarry Assembly and the New Castle Cotillion dance organizations.

She was a volunteer each year at the McDonald’s LPGA Championship golf tournament, serving on the Hospitality Committee. This activity, along with her enjoyment of the game of golf, led to her hobby of collecting autographed and logo golf balls. She proudly displayed her collection of over 1500 golf balls in her home.

She was predeceased by her parents, a half brother, Elmer M. Bauer, and her half sister, Betty Ranck Kibler. She is survived by her husband, Al, sons Craig (Elaine) of Chuluota, FL and Scott (Crystal) of Roanoke, VA, granddaughters Hannah of Roanoke and Taylor and Nicole of Chuluota. She is also survived by seven nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Research Foundation, 22512 Gateway Center Drive, Clarksburg, MD 20871.
