Jeanne died on December 18, 2025, surrounded by family. She was born on August 23, 1932, in Waterbury, Connecticut, to the late Charles Arthur DuBois and Geneva Hubbard DuBois. Jeanne attended St. Margaret’s School for high school and preparation for college.
After St. Margaret’s, Jeanne graduated from Wellesley College, where she earned a B.A. degree in French. During her time at Wellesley, she spent considerable time at the French Center.
She married Harry Everett Gordon, on April 19,1954. A son, Peter arrived on St. Patrick’s Day in 1955.
Harry started his career with Hercules Powder Company (later Hercules, Inc.) in 1955, and the family moved to several locations. While in Dover, NJ, a daughter, Martha, arrived on June 25, 1961.
During the 1970s through to the 2000s, Harry and Jeanne traveled extensively, sometimes with their friends, Anne & John Rundquist and Peggy & Peter Frankenberg (“the Six Thirties”) and sometimes alone. They visited her beloved Paris numerous times, as well the Loire Valley, Champagne, and Normandy in France. They also visited Canada, the Danube, the Rhine, and England, Wales & Scotland. Maine and Grand Cayman were their favorite vacation spots.
Jeanne loved to raise orchids and arrange flowers. She studied painting with Edward Loper for three years. And Jeanne was known for her rhymes and poems, which marked every family and friend’s special occasion.
A review of Jeanne’s life would not be complete without a listing of her services with the following organizations: Volunteer and Board Member of the Child Diagnostic Center of Delaware; President, Vice President and Treasurer of the Delaware Wellesley Club; Founding Choir Member, Lector and Advisor to St. Joseph on the Brandywine Catholic Church; Volunteer for the Heart Sound Screening in Wilmington Schools for the American Heart Association; Member of the Women’s Committee of the Wilmington Symphony (now the Delaware Symphony Orchestra); Member of the Executive Committee, and with Harry, Co-chair of the Volunteer Committee of the Annual Delaware Antiques Show.
A most important activity in Jeanne’s life was her more than 50-year association with Winterthur Museum, most of which was her employment as a full-year Senior Guide. She retired from Winterthur in 2019. Her specialties included very accurate interpretation and tours in French.
Moving to Stonegates in 2017, Jeanne was predeceased by Harry Everett Gordon, Jr. She is survived by children Peter DuBois Gordon (Catherine) and Martha Gordon Kennedy (Robert), grandchildren Claire DuBois Harmer (Dave, d. 2010) and Andrew Cleveland Gordon (Erin), step grandson Jamie Kennedy (Melissa), and great-granddaughter Sloane Eleanor Gordon.
The family would like to thank everyone at Stonegates for their outstanding care and understanding, especially the exceptional staff of the Health Center.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at St. Joseph on the Brandywine at 10:30 AM on January 28, 2026. Visitation will begin at 9:30. In lieu of flowers, we suggest that a donation be made to the charity of your choice.
