Jean A. Boyer

It is with great sadness that the family of Jean A. Boyer announces her passing on Monday, October 9, 2017.

Jean will be lovingly remembered by her daughter Rhonda and husband Bob, her son David and his wife Yolande and her granddaughter Ava as well as many close friends within the community. She was predeceased by her husband of 59 years R. Warren Boyer.

Jean spent her early years in Pennsylvania, proudly graduating from West Chester University in 1952. She taught for several years in Pennsylvania before moving to Delaware where she taught for 28 years. She had a lasting influence on many of her elementary students and made lifelong friends with many of her colleagues from North Star and H.B.duPont Schools.

Jean was an avid bridge player. She enjoyed attending many theater and music programs at the University of Delaware and in Wilmington. She loved nature and particularly loved watching her birds as they visited feeders she always had around her house. She and Warren traveled with friends to many places in the United States, always being sure to take the time to appreciate the wildlife native to the places they visited. Most of all, Jean enjoyed spending time with family and friends, always interested to hear what was happening in their lives.

Condolences

    Pauline Eversmann writes,
Jean taught both of your children at North Star Elementary. She was a perfect exemplar of what you hope for in your child's teacher: kind, inspiring, firm, and insightful. Best of all, she had a wonderful sense of humor and always greeted you with a smile. For years afterwards, we enjoyed seeing her and Warren at the Grand Opera House Classical series. Hers was a life truly well-lived.

Rob Rudrow lit a candle and writes,
Warren and Jean were my oldest friends (1949). We were physically apart after graduation from college but remained close friends. I treasure those times in college and the playful atmosphere they created. They were indeed a one-of-a-kind couple and I shall miss them greatly.

What wonderful memories we both have and will continue to value for Jean, Warren and Rhonda and David as well. Fran saw first hand Jean's bridge skills and observed the outstanding teaching capability, always with a glint in her eyes and an easy comforting smile. What wonderful neighbors and friends to value and remember. Fran & Jim Wilfong

    Francis Ryan Sr. writes,
May I extend my sincerest condolences to the family of Jean Boyer. I worked with Jean for eleven years at Henry B. duPont School from 1980-1991. She was a highly respected professional educator with a smile that could melt an iceberg. Jean always had excellent rapport with students, parents and colleagues. She was a model teacher that emulated the qualities that other teachers were measured against. I recall meeting Jean and another teacher on one occasion when they presented their case for a laminator for the school. They were so convincing, the purchase order was cut the same day. As a result, in a short time, Jean Boyer's classroom and her wing in the school were filled with laminated student work posted throughout! Her respect for others and her warm smile will live on in the memories of her friends, colleagues and students. I am honored to consider Jean Boyer a colleague and my friend. Fran Ryan
