Hedwig Carol McClain

Hedwig Carol McClain (nee Biedrzycka), known to her friends as Carol and her relatives as Hattie, left this earthly realm on December 5, 2021, shortly after her 80th birthday, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s, a stroke, and then COVID and a number of illnesses thereafter. She was born in 1941, and lived and worked in Wilmington, Delaware.

As a young girl, she grew up on Adam’s Street and then the Hedgeville section of Wilmington. She then lived in Browntown until 1990. Prior to entering Parkview Nursing Home in 2011, she lived in Shellburne in North Wilmington. She graduated from Wilmington High School. Her early job was working at the Wiltex Company on Vandever Avenue in Wilmington.

It would be wrong to say that Carol lost her battle because she never stopped fighting. No matter how sick she was, she was always determined. When anyone else would have broken, Carol stayed strong. Through her, we know what resilience and perseverance truly look like. There was no quitting in Carol. Just because she is no longer here, it doesn’t mean she lost her fight.

Carol was predeceased by her parents, Roman Biedrzycki and Edna Biedrzycka (nee Kalinowski). She is survived by her daughter, Lorraine Ramunno, her son in law, Lawrence Ramunno and her three grandchildren, Lorenzo, Louis, and Liam Aaron, whom she spent many happy times after her retirement from Delaware Charter Guarantee & Trust Company, Inc. She is also survived by her brother, Ted Biedrzycki and her many other relatives and friends.

The family suggests that instead of flowers, donations in Carol’s name be made to the Alzheimer’s Association Delaware Valley Chapter online or at 399 Market St., Suite 250, Philadelphia, PA 19106.
