Eva Rose Austin

Eva Rose Austin, died peacefully on Monday, January 9, 2023 at Cokesbury Village in Hockessin, DE. Eva was formerly and proudly of Glen Farms in Elkton, MD.

Eva was born in Sparta, NC to Ivan and Curla Rector.

Eva loved her family, first and foremost. She was a proud mother and wife, devoting her life to her two daughters, Donna and Sherrie, as well as her late husband, Harold. Her face lit up with a smile she was known for anytime she was around her family. Eva was also involved in numerous organizations; Newark New Century Club, Daughters of the American Revolution, Elkton Women’s Civic Club and a lifetime member of the Newark United Methodist Church. She was an excellent bridge player and was an active member of several groups for over 40 years. Her love for her family was the center of her life. We fondly remember the life of an amazing woman, wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. We have all been touched by her love and generosity and strive to be the type of friend Eva was to so many. Our family has lost its matriarch, our biggest advocate and her legacy will always be remembered with love and emotion.

Eva was predeceased by her husband, Harold, and daughter, Sherrie. She is survived by her daughter, Donna White (Ray); son-in-law, Jorge (Lourdes); grandchildren Jonathan White (Kristi); Ashley Palandrani (Greg); Brent Rueda (Kristen); Stephanie Pia (Michael); great-grandchildren Sabela, Anabelle, Parke, Louie and Oscar; and sisters Emma Baker of Havre de Grace, MD and Patricia Dorman of Lewes, DE.

The family would like to thank all of her wonderful friends at Cokesbury Village. We also express our heartfelt gratitude to her companions and caregivers Fran Romano, Debra Campbell and Tanisha Pope for their loving care.

Dear Austin/Rueda/White Family, Please accept my sincerest condolences. I was saddened to hear of Eva's passing. I met Eva about 12 years ago at St. Joseph's On The Brandywine Cemetary. I used to work with Sherrie at Delaware National Bank. In fact, Sherrie is buried on one end of the row and my late husband is buried on the other end. One day I was visiting his gravesite I saw a lady standing at Sherrie's grave. I walked down to her and asked if she knew Sherrie and she said that she was her mother. I introduced myself and explained the connection to Sherrie and said what a coincidence it was that they were on the same row. (They had met each other a few times at various Bank functions). Eva walked down to my husband's grave with me and we exchanged phone numbers. About 2 weeks later, Eva called me and we went out to dinner. Over the next few years we met several times for dinner until I moved to Florida. We continued to get together when I came back to Delaware to visit. I eventually moved back to Delaware and we spoke on the phone a few times, but I was travelling all the time for work and sadly, we lost touch. I have thought of Eva often. She was a wonderful woman and I fondly remember all of our dinners and conversations. She was very proud of her family. Debbie Markwood 302-593-2722 [email protected]
