Eugenie “Jean” Dunphy, age 87 of Hockessin, Delaware, and most recently of Rockland Place in Wilmington, died peacefully on May 25, 2017, at the Compassionate Care Hospice surrounded by her family.
Hailing from New Hyde Park, New York, Jean married the love of her life, Joe, in 1950, had a long and happy marriage and raised five children. Family was of the utmost importance to her. She created homes for them throughout her years in New Jersey, California, New York and Delaware. The focus of her life was nurturing the growth of her children to be kind and compassionate people.
Jean was involved outside the home with friends, enjoying bridge and poker socially, and created great parties for both family and friends. Her volunteer work was extensive. She gave of herself, her support, her time and considerable culinary skills to many organizations including Saint John the Beloved Church, Saint Mary of the Assumption Church, Emmanuel Dining Hall, Our Mary Mother of Hope Home and the ARC of Delaware.
Jean was predeceased by her husband Joseph Dunphy, her daughter Deborah Dunphy D’Amelio, her parents, Charles, Sr. and Susan Bacon and her brother, Charles Bacon, Jr. Jean is mourned by her daughters: Susan (Ralph) DiRuggiero of Essex Fells, NJ, and Alice (Bruce) Rogers of Easton, MD, and her sons: Christopher (Anne) Dunphy of Hockessin and Robert Charles Dunphy of Wilmington. She also leaves to mourn her dear loving sister Ethel Konyha of Ocala, Florida, and her youngest brother Edward Bacon of Oviedo, Florida. Her eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild, along with many nieces and nephews will miss her terribly, as she also gave them wonderful support and comfort.
