Eric Ferguson (63) transitioned to a higher existence Saturday, October 11, 2025, after a brave and arduous, 4.5-year fight with cancer. Eric was a lifelong citizen of Wilmington, and was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Marge. Eric is survived by his loving wife, Mariam, beloved son, Kyle, step sons, Jonathan and Andrew Moore, and many very close friends.
Eric had a Masters of Science Degree in Cardiac Exercise Physiology, and worked in cardiology practices for 22 years. He also was a 3rd degree black belt instructor and physical trainer for decades, both public and private. Eric’s love of martial arts began when he was 10 and it was his primary passion for several decades. He taught at American Karate Studios where multiple, loving, lifelong friendships were forged. Over the decades, these friendships evolved into brothers (and sisters, from other mothers), Bill, Monica, Kevin, Bryan, Dana, Ray, Ana, Don, Steve, Jody, Chris, Eileen, Jason, Jen, and Mike. The friends were inseparable and although his void brings unsettling silence, his friends and family are left with many fond memories. Additionally Eric had 2 lifelong friends from high school, Harry and Henry. Eric gave everything he had to those around him and always knew how to make us belly laugh and lighten our spirits.
Musically and theatrically gifted, Eric’s talent and charisma shown through with gut busting impromptu comedic skits, impersonations and song. Eric had a versatile voice that could imitate cartoon characters, actors, and famous voices. His tremendous singing voice mastered many octaves. He was also a self- taught guitarist, which brought him joy throughout his cancer battle.
Eric was proud of his Scottish ancestry and was a patriotic American. He frequently was on a hike somewhere and occasionally climbed mountains in PA and NJ. He married the love of his life on a mountain top, dressed in full Scottish formal kilt attire. Eric adored his son, Kyle, his beloved wife, his friends from many decades, and his new friends from FedEx Express. He was a dependable, efficient, and dedicated employee at FedEx Express. Eric was a beacon to us sharing his faithful love, expertise, passion, and humor. He was an incredibly funny human who will live on in the hearts of all who had the honor and pleasure to call him, friend, brother, dad, husband, and the many whose lives he touched.
