Eileen Mary Malin

Eileen Mary Malin, age 62, of Hockessin, Delaware passed away on September 22, 2018.

She was born on a summer day in Pittsfield, Massachusetts to her parents Jim and Jeanne Gallagher. The second youngest of five children, she attended Bishop Shanahan High School in Pennsylvania before moving to Florida for her senior year of high school. She graduated from Charlotte High School, class of 1974, before enrolling at the University of Delaware for two school years to study Animal Sciences. After her second year, she transferred to the University of Wyoming to finish her undergraduate schooling and graduated with a B.S. in Agricultural Education in 1979. Eileen proceeded to pursue further education and graduated with a Masters in Plant Pathology from Wyoming in 1983.

While living in Wyoming, she immersed herself in the Western culture working on a sheep and cattle ranch, raising and breeding horses, hunting, and enjoying the lifestyle. A happy marriage brought her back to Delaware and her most gratifying job was raising her family. She handled the family company’s finances and participated in an abundance of her children’s school activities. She loved gardening, working in the yard, boating, traveling and exploring new destinations, sewing, reading, and volunteering.

She is survived by her husband Jim, sons Kyle and Ryan, daughter Janeen, mother Jeanne, sister Anne, brothers Jim, Steve and Larry, as well as many loving nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers or gifts, please donate to Helen F. Graham Cancer Center & Research Institute, 4701 Ogletown Stanton Road, Suite 213, Newark, DE 19713.

Jim and family, you have been in my thoughts and prayers. I am saddened and shocked to hear of Eileen's death. I will always remember her fondly as a person of great character and a wonderful mother. In fact I often remember how calm and loving she was towards Ryan, Kyle and Janeen. Especially after having children of my own, I appreciated her even more. I'm so glad we were able to attend Aunt Jean's birthday and reconnect after such a long time. With all my sympathies, Erin (and Emily and Gavin).
