Eileen Joan Hughey

Eileen Joan Hughey, 96, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 23, 2026, at home in Wilmington, DE. Joan was born in 1929 in Salisbury, England. Joan met her husband, Raymond, in Salisbury when he was stationed there while serving in the U.S. Air Force. After coming to America in 1955, Joan and Raymond and daughter Teresa settled in Jacksonville, FL.

Joan loved growing flowers and working in her garden, a hobby she continued when she moved to Wilmington. She enjoyed painting and would get lost for hours in front of a canvas. But her favorite hobby was shopping, especially at Boscov’s and Talbot’s.

Joan was predeceased in death by her husband, Raymond; son, Edward; and sister Jean Belbin. She is survived by her daughter, Teresa (Wilmington, DE); nephew Wayne Belbin (Cardiff, Wales) and faithful pets Peaches and Jack.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Delaware Hospice for their compassionate care and support in Joan’s final days.
