Edna Barczykowski

Edna Ruth (Bell) Barczykowski, aged 89, passed away peacefully during the late hours of February 7, 2026. She had been surrounded in love by her children and grandchildren during her final days.

Edna was born in 1936, to the late Samuel and Helen (Armstrong) Bell. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 60 years, Stephen W. Barczykowski.

Edna was born, spent her childhood, and raised her family with Stephen mostly within Talleyville area of Wilmington. She was a devoted housewife and loving mother to her children and husband.

In her free time, she was an avid reader and enjoyed sewing, including knitting, crocheting, and needlepointing. Her cross-stitched Christmas stockings were the family’s most sought-after gift.

She met Stephen during her brief employment at Diamond State Telephone Company where he also worked. Shortly after marrying, she resigned from the phone company so they could start their family. Together they dedicated themselves to raising their three children, Stephen M. Barczykowski, Denise Sell and Kelly Marsh.

When the children got older Edna took a part-time position as a seamstress in the Pomeroy’s store in the Concord Mall for several years.

For many years after Stephen retired, Edna enjoyed joining him in the annual Ex-POW Conventions hosted in various cities around the US. She always mentioned Hawaii as her favorite.

Edna enjoyed listening to the stories told by her 7 grandchildren, Michael, Kyle and Gage Barczykowski, Sarah Donaldson, Dean and Nate Marsh, and Devon Watts. Edna enjoyed watching her 4 great-grandchildren, especially when they were balls of non-stop energy. Regrettably, had Edna lived a few more months she would have enjoyed the birth of her 5th great-grandchild.

Edna is survived by two of her four siblings, Dawn Sinclair and Russell Bell and is preceded in death by Beverly Ryan and Roger Bell.
