Douglas M. Clarke

Douglas M. Clarke, 94, of Hockessin DE passed away peacefully on June 3, 2018.

A resident of Cokesbury Village, he was born in 1924 in Baltimore MD. He graduated from high school and enlisted in the U.S. Navy during WW II in the Pacific Theater. He served as an electrician on the U.S.S. Duluth and was honorably discharged. Doug attended and graduated from Drexel University with a degree in Electrical Engineering. He had a long career with the Hercules Chemical Company where he worked in the Engineering Department and retired. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, and playing bridge.

He is survived by his loving wife, Ellen (Aiman) Clarke; his son, Douglas M. Clarke, Jr. (Francine) and daughter, Patricia Morgan Miller (Jake). He has one granddaughter, Ashley Miller. Doug was the son of Albert B. Clarke and Anne (Morgan) Clarke. He was predeceased by his brother A.B. “Byrd” Clarke (Pete) and his sister Helen Simmons (Nelson). He is also survived by sister-in-laws Janet (Bruce) Waechter, Patrician A. Aiman, and several nieces and a nephew.

Flowers are gratefully declined. If desired, donations may be made to Delaware Hospice, 16 Polly Drummond Shopping Center, Newark DE or the Seeing Eye, 10 Washington Valley Road, Morristown, NJ 07960 in his name.

The family would like to thank the staff of Cokesbury Village Nursing Center, Delaware Hospice and his aide, Stephanie, for their care and compassion given Doug.

Funeral Services

A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date.
