Doris Winton McVaugh

Doris Winton McVaugh (nee Hood), age 98, passed away on Friday, October 15, 2021 at home, where she resided with her son, Robert Winton and his wife, Victoria.

Doris was born in Tennille, Washington County, Georgia. She was the daughter of the late William Leon Hood and Eva Youngblood Hood.

After finishing school and obtaining a degree in nursing in Milledgeville, Georgia, Doris joined the U.S. Army Nurse Corp in 1945 and was stationed in Fort Benning, Georgia. This is where Doris met her husband Clifford Allen Winton, the father of her three children. Upon separation from the service, the family lived in Wilton and Darien Connecticut before moving to Delaware in July of 1966.

Doris was preceded in death by her husband of 30 years, Clifford Winton who passed away in September, 1975 in Wilmington, Delaware. In 1985, Doris married Donald McVaugh who passed away in March 2002 in Jupiter, Florida. In addition, Doris was predeceased by her grandson, Clifford Winton, II of Tucson,  Arizona, who passed away in January 2018.

Doris is survived by her three children and their spouses, Patricia Newmark and her husband Kent, Allen Winton and his wife Linda, Robert Winton and his wife Victoria, her five grandchildren; Jennifer (RJ), Meredith, Stacey (Peter), Bradford (Katie) and Melissa and her eight great-grandchildren; Sonthia, Chaz, Reinhard, Starke, Max, Kellan, Alexandra and Elliott.

The family would like to express a heartfelt thank you to Seasons Hospice, John Psomas, RN, the Brandywine Team and especially Patty Cross, her private nurse, for all the exceptional care and compassion for Doris.
